He also paid perhaps the highest price. I know many such as Deforest always thought Johnson with his speed would have defeated any Jeffries and maybe he would of but as we saw w Corbett Jeff was not a stranger to dealing with speed. Regardless, he'd have done far , far better than in Reno at the very least.
W Brady, Corbett and Jeffries manager stated Jeffries was always leery of Johnson. P4P it might have been a bit like Ali v Frazier1.
The 'Jeffries easy to hit' idea should be qualified that contemporaries allowed that Jeffries well guarded the critical areas.
Those ,"critical areas",obviously did not include his nose ,broken 3 times, his eyes, scar tissue above both, and his ears ,cauliflower ear.
"The 'Jeffries easy to hit' idea should be qualified that contemporaries allowed that Jeffries well guarded the critical areas." And I don't disagree that Jeffries got somewhat-to-extremely chewed up at times. The feeling at the time was that, with his right elbow over his breadbasket and right fist near his chin, and the other side of his jaw behind his left shoulder, Jeffries was able to well protect the critical areas. I think that should qualify the notion that Jeffries was easy to hit; I don't say it refutes that notion. Some fellows aren't easy to hit to great effect while not being particularly hard to hit cleanly or at all.
The marks of battle on his features after he retired are disproportionate to the amount of fights,[24] he had imo. This points towards a leaky defence.
I don't agree with everything in this video, but it makes some valid points, in Sullivan's defense. This content is protected
