DAZN has very deep pockets but there is of course a limit to how much money they will invest. It will definitely be very exciting to follow the development from the sidelines.
Exactly. Companies with much deeper pockets than DAZN have tried and failed to make a go of running a sports channel based on secondary Premier League rights. I have no doubt that in a few years they will be looking to sell the channels too.
Only one I think which was espn. The difference now is the premier league rights bubble has stopped growing out of control. It was getting silly how much the rights were costing.
A change of ownership won’t affect subscribers or Frank for the time being. I think some people (not you Jurgen) are too hung up on DAZN U.K. suddenly taking over all boxing on BT when this happens . I think the app will be a standalone product for quite a while yet but have the added BT Sport marketing machine behind it , it is after all a streaming service. They may add it to their TV platform eventually when Frank’s deal runs out but until then I think very little changes.
My friend sister works at BT sport and I have been asking her about the sale over last 4 months. Staff were told last week the business could be sold soon and there employment could not be guaranteed. They were not told if it was DAZN or Discovery though.
This has dragged on far too long which makes me think there are multiple bids on the table for BT Sport. If DAZN buys BT Sport I can see the new owners honouring current contracts and letting others (notably Frank’s boxing) run their course before not renewing. I think the best place for Frank is ITV if Sky aren’t an option- it has a massive reach and you could put the lesser cards on ITV4 (some of which are languishing on YouTube currently).
I'm not sure they will use BT sport branding. I see it all becoming DAZN pretty quickly. The one difference being wanting to probably use the same TV precence BT has as there own DAZN TV channel. However as the report says thats if comcast (sky) and Virgin allow them to have a spot on there platforms.
If this happens, Dazn will experience diseconomies of scale through increased costs. My prediction that Dazn will go bankrupt by end of 2022 is absolutely aging like fine wine. May now put it forward to mid 2022
I totally agree. If Sky Sports is not an option for Frank Warren then it would be great to have him back on ITV. It's a shame that ITV does not show boxing anymore because they have a great reach and platform.
If it does go through, it will be awful for football fans if we have to endure the 1 minute plus streaming delays seen on Matchroom Boxing Shows live on DAZN UK. Hopefully they get to take over the BT Channels on Sky as delayed Broadcasts are no use to sports fans.
