I always knew it was going to be a bait and switch. That's what Fury does, he takes only mega fights and safe fights. I don't really have a great problem with that, but I thought it would be Haye or Kabayel. It's worse... “If Dillian Whyte is not gonna fight for whatever reason, obviously we’re not gonna keep Tyson Fury – not gonna make him pay the price of waiting. Fury wants to fight and wants to fight sooner rather than later. We can look around, get a good, decent opponent for him to fight if Whyte isn’t available. You’ve got guys like Robert Helenius and Manuel Charr. You just look at the rankings and pick a couple of guys from the rankings who would make decent opponents.”
Great to see Team Fury giving the fans what they want Looks like the WBC are also lining up potential ranked opponents for Fury: HEAVY – World Boxing Council (wbcboxing.com) I really hope that is a problem with their website... Edit: just to be clear, for those who haven't clicked on the link: the WBC has "accidentally" replaced everyone below Fury (Champion) and Whyte (interim) with their female top 10
I'm waiting for Fury fanboys to say that Charr is more proven than Whyte, because Povetkin KO him in the 7th round, but Whyte in the 5th round
Is it just me, or didn't Charr see the inside of a ring for years now? After he got busted juicing, and got off on a technicality, every fight fell trough as far as I know. And the only reason he still even gets into the WBA mix is because of that technicality. How on earth did he even make the WBC rankings?
And people compare this Heavyweight era to the Golden Era of the 70s and 80s....They are an absolute Disgrace.!!!!
I don't think Fury/Whyte is happening, it's going to purse bids now but Hearn said he doesn't think it will happen at least not by March as mandated by the WBC. As for Charr, bit early for April's Fool's isn't it. Surely not even Warren is serious here. Charr winning the WBA title after getting shot 4 times was a nice story but he wouldn't of been a good opponent in his prime but now at 37 having fought once against a scrub in 4 years, that's a fight impossible to sell. Hell Charr wouldn't be acceptable as an opponent vs Hughie Fury let alone Tyson Fury. Surely Warren is talking Manuel Charr vs Tommy Fury?
This is the second time in a year this has happened to Top Rank negotiating with Matchroom/Eddie Hearn. Arum is using a negotiating tactic by pointing out Fury has options.
Oh, that's right! He was the one eventually got the honor of facing the mighty Lovejoy, after a fight against one of the Brits fell trough being still under contract.
Fury will make a lot of noise about wanting to fight the top competition but he'll stink out his career fighting C level opponents while his dad will be his biggest cheerleader.
We have been here before. Does anyone genuinely believe Fury will fight before summer (or even autumn) 2022?
