Why did the referee stop the Ruiz Joshua fight when Anthony Joshua responded ”yeah”?

Because the question was ‘have you had enough’ ?

 

Because he had his hands at his side on the ropes thinking about how Tyson Fury was a real fighting man

Wasn't ready to fight.

Usyk is looking to do the same thing to him. Make him gas then impregnate him.

 

Joshua was blinking "help me" in morse code.

 

Is that what the official asked? Or you just fooling?

I just figured Griffin was hearing the right noises but seeing the wrong body language from Joshua. Many think AJ quit indirectly — I've given him the benefit of the doubt on that, but I couldn't put a lot of conviction behind it.

 

AJ was getting beat really bad and the ref was probably looking for any reason to stop it. Bad body language was probably enough at that point

Mouth said one thing, body said another.

You see tons of fights get stopped when the fighter gives a meek "yes" to the question whether he wants to continue. The referees have to protect these guys from themselves, and I thought that ref did a nice job. Joshua was finished.

 

He was reading Joshua's body language, same as the ref in Wilder Fury 2 when he saw Wilder mentally give up and retreat into a shell in the seventh.

 

Classic; never gets old.

 

AJ should have yelled F yeah, then do the Aaron Pryor fist point and mean mug Ruiz. Then the fight would have continued.

 

I heard a pretty believable explanation from Eddie Hearn (I think?) that AJ was relaxing on the ropes because he had spit his mouthpiece and assumed nothing could happen until he got it back.

It wasn't a bad stoppage but I think some refs would have let him continue.

 

Because you don't get to spit out your mouthpiece, walk to a corner, call time out and take as much time as you like to collect yourself ... and everyone doesn't stand around waiting for you to decide when the fight resumes.

I know Joshua called time against Joseph Parker and the referee back home let him get away with it.

But, for the most part, when you get hurt or even floored by a legal punch, you don't get to decide when the fight continues. It's not sparring.

The other guy gets to win, too.

 

Ref should have let Jnr lay him out cold, I agree.

In the first 3 KDs, AJ got up and put his hands up indicating that he was ready to fight.

In the last KD, he turned his back on the ref, went to the ropes and laid there, exhausted. He didn't put his hands up and it looked like his fighting spirit was gone. When he didn't put his hands up, that's a message to the ref that he no longer wants to continue.

It's a good stoppage. Look at the last KD.
