Is there any footage still around of the fight Al?
I remember seeing it at the time but can’t find it anywhere on then internet.

No it doesn't seem to exist but yes it was shown at the time delayed by a couple of hours 9.am BBC on the Saturday morning in UK. I know it was shown in Australia, Lionel did colour commentary on it, also Mexico and Venezuela. It might just show up one day. Raul Cruz vs Chucho Castillo 2 the chief support is on youtube.

Not only did I see the fight, I bought your dad a drink ( think it was a soft one ) at the Muswell Hill golf club, many years ago, we spoke at length about the fights with Clark a Londoner like me, he was very humble and softly spoken, it was a privilege. keep safe mate.

Are you doing the whole tour with Gene? I would sell my soul for an autograph from Little Red, or Ruben. I think that they are together on the 22nd, but I am too far away.

 

The rematch with Kanazawa was on October 25, 1971 and unlike the first fight which was a 2nd rd KO this is a pretty brutal 14 round fight and Olivares appears to have some fairly significant eye damage by the end yet, somehow, he has his next fight against Jesus "Chucho" Pimentel on December 14, 1971, not even a full 2 months later! Was there no concern taking a fight that soon or was he forced into doing so somehow? The Kanazawa fight was rough. Did he think Kanazawa was fighting dirty purposely and was it getting to him as much as it looks to in the video of the fight, and was it his toughest successful defense of the BW title?
