Jack Dempsey V s Earnie Shavers.?

Every single evidence says opposite.

 

List an evidence that says otherwise. Jeez, Jack Dempsey is so ridiculously overrated and overhyped that someone who's also severely overrated as in Shavers fails to stand up to that level of hype.

 

For starters, Dempsey was knocked out once in his entire career and he was a complete novice then. I know that there is a lot of discussion about his competition, but you can't say that he didn't face strong punchers.

Shavers was knocked out 7 times in his career, including KO losses against such monsters like Ron Stander, Bernardo Mercado, Tex Cobb and shot Jerry Quarry. I wouldn't back up any of them against Dempsey.

 

Would you opine Shavers is better than Fireman Flynn?

I saw recently you can certainly put forward decent points when you want to!

 

Dempsey being the faster and more skilled man would likely land first and bomb Shavers out of there early. But Shavers landing a big overhand bomb is always a danger

 

So what if he got knocked out when he was a novice, the guy who knocked him out was a mediocre opponent that didn't exactly have a reputation as a hard puncher, and also was a light heavyweight. Shavers had heart in those losses and gave his opponents hell throughout the whole fight.

 

That's it, Sometime in round one Shavers reaches for Jack or tries one of his wild overhands and Dempsey clocks him , if he gets up a serious beating is coming.

 

I'm not sure i'd label him a complete novice when he beat Flynn a year later and conceived his famous victory over Flynn a similar time after that.

 

Flynn wasn't that bad, he could beat some solid names in his career.
