Lamont Peterson is a very mediocre boxer. The fact that Khan lost/had a close fight with him shows how poor Khan was
All that pushing Khan did was some ***** ass cowardly moves he deserved to lose points for that D level Peterson beat his ass fair and square in a cherry pick gone wrong.
This was a truly ugly robbery. Khan got utterly screwed hard on the point deductions ....and even accounting for those he still won the fight by a couple points. It was competitive but not really close as he handled the steroid cheat with some ease. Why he ever went as the champion to PEDerson's corrupt hometown was ******ed.
I was quite an avid Khan hater in his prime. I never forgave the way he ducked the domestic scene on his way up. So I could never score this fight honestly. But I do want to revisit it myself actually. Will post my scores when I'm done.
Thought he won the fight. The pushing off in the 12th was dumb, though. One of the last fights of the first half of his career where he was a warrior who gave us exciting fights. Chasing the Mayweather fight for so long and not getting it seemingly broke him in some way, the dedication declined and so did he. The 2nd half of his career has been a huge disappointment during which he practically became a part-time boxer. That shouldn't define our view of him - he gave us a lot of great fights prior...
I thought Khan won that fight. I was pretty "surprised" that peterson got the decision in his hometown!
I always assumed he was a polarizing figure because there seemed to be air of arrogance about him. I'm not sure if it was because of his appearance, pedigree, confidence, or the way he spoke of himself in comparison to others, but it seemed like a lot of boxing fans found him difficult to like. For me, I did enjoy watching his skills, but also revelled when he took losses. I don't understand why you can't both be a fan of someone's ability, and dislike their personality at the same time. Seems very black and white to me.
One of the weirdest fights you'll ever see. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but Khan was robbed in this one. The fix was in. Cheaterson was busted months later for drugs - "oh it was legit your honour" I call BS. The man in the hat advising scoring. Card being altered. It was all dodgy as hell.
