Arum said that he had arranged a meeting with Whyte and his lawyer in London (iirc this week) to discuss the match. I think it was in the IFL interview. I'm paraphrasing, but he strongly implied that he was willing to help smooth any concerns over to get the fight over the line (i.e. financially). I'm sure that might change if Whyte is seeking millions extra, but it feels like Arum is willing to take the extra steps to get Whyte on side with the promotion. Hopefully once that's out the way we'll see Whyte acknowledge and start to play his part in the promotion. Frank has delayed the press conference until next week. I can only assume they're aiming to sort Whyte out first this week, then arrange press conference next week with Whyte and Fury both there and on board with promotion.
How can Whyte have a problem with any of this?? I don't even buy the long-running narrative that the WBC have done him many terrible injustices. It's just nonsense. Whyte's been sold as a PPV and world class fighter largely on the strength of his WBC ranking, and the various 'belts' and 'titles' (Silver, Interim, etc.) that the WBC have bestowed on his fights.
If any boxer deserves to be a multi-millionaire, it’s Whyte. Yes, people love money. But Whyte really loves a pound note. It will be cool to see him driving around in his dream car (Bugatti of some description), living in a lavish home and with an even bigger harem of women (Whyte does very well with women as it is). If Whyte beats Fury there is an argument that he has the best résumé in the division behind Joshua, who is leaps and bounds ahead of anyone in this era.
He was ranked as number one for the majority of 1000 days he was never mandatory, also for a spell in that 1000 days he couldn’t have been ranked number one cos he had just been obliterated by Povetkin
He has been waiting well over 1000 days excluding that period of time. Nobody ain’t want that Whyte smoke.
Personally I agree with you. I think the lawyer in Arum is seeing a potential easy win here in terms of a settlement deal. Get the fight over the line, get Dillian on side with the promotion this fight will desperately need to turn a profit, and just maybe get him to drop the WBC litigation (as Fury is his fighter, any outcome from that could affect him going forward).
Not that I agree with it but its probably shrewd of Whyte to be silent on his. He clearly feels (rightly or wrongly) that by giving him 20% mandatory percentage he is not willing to go above and beyond to line the pockets of others as the only non fixed part of his income comes with winning the fight, which is now his sole focus. He will end up getting a bit more cash and playing his part as the commercial value in this fight comes from what you would have expected to be a quite fiery and entertaining build up.
Surely there is no need to give Dillian who is already earning ridiculously more than he deserves any further inducements? The purse bid has been concluded. The split is clear. He will receive a contract for the fight, if he refuses to sign it in an allotted time frame he loses the right to the fight, as he has pulled out so Tyson Fury will fight the next mandatory in line or if not will be free to select a voluntary defense. Why on earth should promoters effectively bribe Whyte into taking the fight by paying him millions on top of the millions already guaranteed- he's acting like a spoiled brat and trying to hold people to ransom when he's really a very average fighter with no particular credentials allowing him to do so.
