Because nobody knows him, outside of hardcore boxing fans.

Eras change both perception and judgement of fighters, and in turn their greatness. Roy is one of my alltime favorites and you could argue pound for pound the fastest hands we've seen, he's definitely in that convo. That said his resume is OK but not like those guys I suppose.

It's kinda sad that we only judge a certain era forward on what they took to perform when peds are as old as sport....

Roy is probably more well known than Robinson even outside of boxing fans

He's picking up a British accent, it's very strange to hear.

In fairness, boxing has become a fringe sport. More people know the YouTube amateur boxers than most belt holders. In the old days, everyone knew the major champs and watched them fight frequently on free TV. Boxing will never get back to the golden years and will continue sinking in popularity. As long as the alphabet soup sanctioning bodies and corruption rule the sport. I’m talking about US popularity. I don’t give a **** about popularity outside the US.

He's correct to say his losses when he was old shouldn't change his greatness rating.

He was virtually untouchable until he stated losing at age 35, then he declined rapidly and was just an old punchbag. But look at him at age 22 to 34. That's a great fighter.

Did the weight drop after WBA heavyweight win effect his punch resistance or was he aways there to be taken out with a big shot but nobody could catch him.

    Roy self-effacing as ever

Because SRR and Ali were iron-jawed warriors with insane resumes and you're a savage puncher avoiding glass-jawed freak who couldn't take a pop on the whiskers from an old lady and your resume pales into insignificance in comparison to the likes of legends like them.

i don't get it. so Roy's "glass jawed" and just never got touched until Tarver. but Tarver also won the first fight? but lthen none of the shots could have been clean effective punching because if they were RJJ would have been knocked out bc he has a glass jaw, right?

because i happen to think Tarver did win the first fight, despite being a RJJ fan, and the announcers at ringside said Tarver was hitting Roy with a lot of hard shots.

i find it a lot more plausible that a fighter loses their punch resistance through the abuses of training and moving weights and declining motivation and decreased reflexes than they moved up through the amateur and pro ranks and fought world class opposition including some hall of famers and just never got hit hard.

really the whole glass jawed thing when talking about world class level boxers is kinda asinine.

So he had a glass jaw.....ok so it means how great he was...cause nobody touched him for over 10 years....except Del Valle for a flash knockdown...

I have never seen a fighter at his prime as amazing to watch than Roy Jones was at his prime....not Tyson, not Mayhaether, not De la Hoya, Hopkins , Hearns....no one.

In the 90s.....for me he was a top 3 athlete in the world along with Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods.

Easy answer here You just were not in the same class as Ali & SRR Roy. Had you retired after the Ruiz title fight you had the chance to maybe challenge them but instead you fought on & got exposed for having a glass jaw. You were good Roy Even looked Great but just not in their class
