It looks as if Sky have a quota of four PPVs a year now- I can’t see this topping 100k buys if I’m honest.
Depending on the split with Sky though, 100k at 20 quid probably pays the boxers more than they've ever earned. Sky will use some kind of equality budget to underwrite the purses and everyone's happy - except the viewers.
Lads on another note, surely they need to move the women to 3min rounds. 2mins is absolute bollocks! They cant get a rhythm going and the moment someone is hurt, the round is over! Imagine they changed the 100m to 100m for men & 70m for women. Absolute joke, it makes it unwatchable
If they're gonna make it a PPV, they better build it up. Marshall is supposed to fight in Newcastle in a few weeks, right? Apparently you can't buy tickets for that. Maybe they cancelled that and forgot to tell everyone.
Thing is if it does poor numbers it will hurt the women’s game badly. Shields has already done poor US PPV if she does a poor UK one too. Overall purses will drop as the likes of top rank will point that women’s fights don’t sell. Sky should have put the money up and stuck it on free tv like eubank vs Williams. Only way this sells is to stick a chisora type co headline that sells to casuals the way they did for taylor vs prograis. But sky don’t currently have the fighters. Mira also rumoured Sky have the fury vs Whyte Ppv jointly with BT and Khan vs Brook is also likely to go straight to a December rematch. So if they have a minimum quota of 4 PPVs they only need to find one more. Eubank or taylor in October would have been a better bet
I actually think this will do quite well, it will just depend on the effort Sky wish to put forward to promote it. If they really push it, have them on the pitch at Newcastle, on Sky Sports News and just regular adverts on every break it will naturally drum up interest. If they put it up for a tenner too with a good undercard I think it does okay. Maybe not 100K but well enough, the ladies should be earning 6 figures for this one anyway.
