Promoters seem to be whining lately of the difficulty to gain interest for amazing matchups in the ring. Sounds like a **** promoter to me. That's their job, but anyway. Could someone productively tell me why there's some w@nkers hijacking the boxing news (youtubers) while the appreciation of boxing has to try and make do with scraps and the odd matchup that aligns with the sport.
Spence vs Crawford would gain traction if people actually believed it might happen. YouTube fights are a completely different audience. They shouldn't even be mentioned as a measuring stick of whats capable.
For Sure. But they are. At best an exhibition and at worst a banner for the sport. Promoters are leaning (depressingly) (again) into the way of PPV numbers, which favours ****heads with lots of **** to spread widely. And I'll just sit here wondering why the best boxers aren't facing the best boxers, again.
As far as Crawford v Spence goes then it's on my wishlist and I absolutely expect that those that could make that matchup happen are, pretty much, useless.
In my opinion Spence vs Crawford has cooked so long the soup has mostly evaporated. I personally have more interest in seeing both fight Ennis instead of each other. Fight the young Lion. Set up a Welter WBSS or something. Spence, Crawford, Ugas,Thurman, Ennis, Ortiz, Butaev, Stanionis. Spence vs Stanionis Crawford vs Butaev Ugas vs Ortiz Ennis vs Thurman
I remember years ago a lot of younger newbie fans wanted boxing to be more like WWE. They got their wish.
Spence may leave soon if he unifies. The young guns should have it to usher in a new WW era. Thurman will be picky about who he fights.
Imagine there was another super charismatic once in a generation talent YouTuber like Jake ''Money'' Paul with a biblical right hand from hell on the scene right now and how big a fight between them would be?
I'm legitimately more interested in the next Paul fight more than Charlo, Spence, you name it. These are all 10-1 fights, they are won and lost before they are ever fought. Who gives a **** ? Spence isn't fighting Crawford and Jermall will fight another absolute no-hoper.
The problem with Spence vs Crawford is that the fight always has been worth more competitively than it is financially. And the gap between those realities is too wide to bridge. The fight won’t happen unless the parties lower their financial demands. Which will happen eventually, but by then it will be a Brook vs Kahn situation. It’s very difficult to make a big fight between two black American fighters. The interest just isn’t there unless one of them has a huge built in following like Mayweather. But neither Spence nor Crawford is very charismatic. Andre Ward had the same problem. And his fight against Chad Dawson had no buzz. But he did a lot better against Kov because the fight had a different hook.
Yeah I agree that Spence and Crawford don't have the media charisma that sells a brawl. It could turn into an explosive meeting but that seems to be an almost irrelevant part of the organisation and promotion of boxing in its current state. Fast-food-boxing-fans will tend to spend their boxing money on the same event. Not every boxer is going to be Muhammad Ali. The best boxers are in danger of slipping into obscurity.
