1947 Jersey Joe Walcott vs 1987 Evander Holyfield

Evander Holyfield proved he could move up, fight and beat world class modern sized and skilled guys. Jersey Joe Walcott couldn't. Joe Walcott was getting beat by light punching Joey Maxim, Roy Lazer, George Brothers ect. Also getting knocked out by guys like 178 pound Tiger Fox, Al Ettore, and Abe Simon who was a big guy but crude. Holyfield would of been too much for Walcott

 

Odd fight thag could go either way. Could see Walcott troubling Holy similar to Holmes. But could also see Holy plowing through and getting enough points or a KO. Interesting fight at those years

 

Walcott beat plenty of decent punchers and big men. Curtis Sheppard Elmer Ray Lee Murray also beat excellent boxers in Bivins Johnson and Charles. The one Maxim loss was considered a robbery I believe (although I’d have to double check).

 

That version of Jersey Joe has enough experience and skill to take Evander by close unanimous decision. But Holyfield makes Walcott work for it.

 

Holyfield KO. Walcott would've given him some trouble before getting dropped by Holyfield's signature left hook.
