He takes on Duran and Hearns in his prime and Leonard in the Valadez state how’s he fare for your money? I think he and Marvellous could swap places in history and have near identical scores- though I think Emile and Napoles could pose big problems for Marvellous and might steal the W.
Hearns couldn't last 12 never mind 15 rds with Monzon, no way. He beats them all IMO, but maybe he could loose a close decision to Leonard at the end of his career like Hagler did.
In the OP Monzon replaces Hagler as one of the Kings. Yeah, I'm going with Marvelous. On top of everything Monzon was a lousy person.
he can beat Duran for sure. He'd do better against Duran than Hagler did and wouldt fall behind He'd beat Benitez on points He'd beat Leonard too, on points but I think he'd have problems with Hearns because Tommy has much better speed, can match him for height and reach, has a better offensive tools, and the much cleaner hitter If Monzon cant fight on the inside, he'd better learn fast or lose his title on points
Beats all 3 imo. There would be no psychological or confidence issues running interference. Carlos will fight all 3 as he was and as he should, the bigger, stronger man and more resilient fighter, playing exactly to his own strengths, not those of his opposition. Monzon was on the other side of prime and a bit inactive leading into the 2nd Valdez fight but still that much better off than Hags was for Leonard. When he retired, Carlos was still a very viable MW Champ in absolute terms but chose not to fight through the further deteriorations that were sure to come with advancing age and more fights. Had it been Monzon instead of a battle torn and ill strategised Hags, I truly believe Leonard’s comeback in 87 would’ve seen a nightmare ending rather than a fairy tale finish. With all his ducks line up, Ray took supreme confidence in with him v Hags. I don’t question Ray’s heart at all but the prospect of facing Monzon, even as he was for Valdez, would see Leonard that much more intimidated and wary imo. Despite Leonard’s demonstrated skills in 87, the way Monzon would fight Ray would make Leonard look every inch the much smaller man. As far as this “exchange program” goes (GREAT idea, btw), I think Monzon benefits quite a bit more than Hags.
I'm actually amazed some think Hearns could survive 15 rds with Monzon. He might well have a lead early but Monzon will get to him sooner or later.
He killed a woman. He was a good boxer. O..J..Simpson was a good football player. Both are lousy human beings.
