It's high time for the "Paulie Ayala Story"

 

Only the film about how Holfield regains the title against Riddick Bowe, while the paratrooper enters the ring, and stops the fight for a while deserves the film.
Their fight after the bell would be included.

Are you kidding? A guy that lost his first pro fight after a 56 month prison Sentence, dedicates himself in a way that most are incapable of and goes on to make the most Middleweight title defenses in the history of the sport and becomes the oldest fighter to win and defend a major title. Throw in a few dominate performances against fighters that were HEAVLY favored to beat him like Trinidad, Tarver and Pavlik.

Take boxing out of the equation, just his survival of that long of a prison sentence and self discipline to become not only a great champion but also a very successful business man is a story I would like to see on the big screen.

 

Would only make money in North America, nobody knew who he was outside of America.

 

Tarver was hardly the stuff of Holywood though, the average person has never heard of that fight.

 

Jim Carey could play te parachute guy.

 

What would a Holyfield movie be? A dude doing nothing but training and occasionally knocking up a different woman? That's basically all he did his entire career.

Holyfield is an ATG, great champ, but a boxing movie needs a character who is interesting outside of the ring and Holyfield wasn't.

 

Yep. Although there's so much material with Johnson, would be better as a streaming series. Needs to be made with the balls to keep in ALL the racial animus of the era too, really do his story justice.

 

michael jace would have been perfect to play him. However hes gonna be sowing mailbags for a long long time

 

Eamonn Magee story would make a very interesting movie. People wouldnt believe it though and think it was hollywooded up

 

You weren't a fan of the great white hope with James Earl Jones?

 

I think Cleveland Williams might make a good story. Long boxing career. Survived a gun shot attack and later resumed his career

 

Younger Sullivan, but it would have had to have been made in the 90s or early 2000s, like Gangs of New York and its predecessors/successors. That's the only time you might’ve gotten the right balance of a historical warts-and-all portrait without making Sullivan overly heroic, overly wimpy and emotional, or just a one dimensional racist jerk.

With that said, a biographical movie about an *old* Sullivan where he's part of the temperance and progressive movements, interacting with Teddy Roosevelt & Jack Johnson on occasion, and looking back at his life would probably be better. That gives you a version of Sullivan that American pop culture already recognizes: the old, gracefully-passing Sullivan from the Gentleman Jim mythos, but with more depth and historical reality to him. Albeit with a little more edge, like John Wayne from "The Shootist." Our era, permeated as it is with Boomer nostalgia movies, might go for something like that.
