I wouldn’t say far superior. Prime Tyson’s wins are all on AJ’s opposition level. Tyson beats all of AJ’s wins and AJ would beat all of Tysons wins

A bit overrated. Spinks was a light heavyweight who froze on the night. 39 y/o Holmes had a couple of good rounds. Tubbs only had a couple of notable decision wins on his sheet and had lost one to Witherspoon.

To call him the best ever no contest is over rating him, but to call him one of the top 5 heavyweights ever is not.

He beat mostly cans and as soon as he stepped up in level he got humiliated.

Tyson beat 7 holders of title belts. Not quite the same as former World Champions. Louis beat former champions Max Schmeling, Jack Sharkey, Primo Carnera, and Max Baer, current champion James J. Braddock, and future champion Jersey Joe Walcott.

Overrated. These fighters would beat him like a bully stepchild as prime vs prime:

    Muhammad Ali
    Larry Holmes
    Evander Holyfield
    Lennox Lewis
    George Foreman

These fighters could beat him as prime vs prime:

    Riddick Bowe
    Joe Frazier
    Vitali Klitschko
    Wladimir Klitschko
    Tyson Fury
    Oleksandr Usyk

These bums would have got murdered by prime Tyson:

    Anthony Joshua
    Deontay Wilder
    Tommy Morrison
    David Tua
    Michael Moorer

No. He was sensational, spiritual child of prime Foreman and Frazier but with the hand speed of FOTC Ali. Nothing can take away from those years. He couldn't be beaten, otherwise Thomas or Tubbs wouid have done so imo.

Whoa my friend I completely agree with Mike beating AJs wins, but I'm not sure even the best AJ could beat even a year and a half rusty, 38 year old Holmes. No offense, I respect your posts.

People that think tysons overrated are dreaming. His run was unbelievable...thats never been matched or surpassed since. Started his career in 1985....knocking out 15 guys. Career underway that first year...the second year he starts knocking out half decent fighters...some of them hes fighting 30 days apart. Good experienced pro,s as well. The third year hes pretty much battered easily...most standing in his path for a title at 20 years old. The youngest ever heavyweight champion still to be beating and for me wont ever be beaten. The rate in which he took on and pretty much pulverised the division is and was unbelievable. Especially considering he was 20 years old at the timr.

He threw it away...but he genuinely could have been the best heavyweight ever or there abouts anyway. A genuine top 5 of all time heavyweight.

People need to review the guys he beat...i still say it was the most underrated division ever...because them guys he was beating we,re class operators. The problem is a lot of people have only watched them really against tyson...where he battered them into submission. But if anyone gets the chance go back and watch james tillis...or razor ruddock...or berbick...or tubbs...tucker against other guys not names tyson. Their all accomplished fighters that are great at a lot of things fighters today csnt seem to master.

Tyson was more hyped than skilled. He was good. Very good at times. But the myth of Tyson was better than the actual Tyson. I grew up in his era. He solid his fights with his image.

He was also a train wreck out of the ring.

    1985:
A kid who knocks out the first 15 opponents (11 of them in the first round) appears on the professional scene.
And then comes 1986 and his "maturing" as a fighter. In the year of winning the title, there are 13 professional fights. That is when his prime began (1986-1989).
The first opponent to finish the match, James Tillis, shows him that he is not a force of nature in front of which everything collapses (but he is far from the opponents of the C and D class). Tyson ends a series of 19 consecutive knockouts (12 of them in the first round).
Mitch Green also manages to somehow end the fight with Mike Tyson. It is said on the street that Tyson did not win at all, but that it was a referee's mistake. Then the fighters on the street decided who won the ring.
The knockout series continues. It includes Marvis Frazier, which indicates the end of his career. At the end of the series, a fight for the title. Champion Trevor Berbick bows his head when he meets his eyes, as if he senses what awaits him in the fight (I would rather call it a beating).
Mike Tyson becomes the youngest world champion in history. Fighting for the unification of the belts follows.
    1987:
James Smith can't handle Mike Tyson's "speed kills" style of fighting. Tyson also wins the WBA belt. Pinklon Thomas falls by brutal knockout. A fight with Tony "TNT" Tucker for the undisputed heavyweight world champion follows, and Mike Tyson succeeds.
Mike Tyson is barely 21 years old, and he is already the undisputed world heavyweight champion. Away from fighting with B, C or D class fighters.
    1988:
Mike Tyson won the love of the world. In 3 great matches, the second Tony "TNT" falls like a skittle, and becomes the lineal champion in the spectacular execution of Michael Spinks (who is retiring with one defeat) in half a round. Larry Holmes is knocked out for the only time in 75 professional fights.
At the age of 21, Mike Tyson loves the whole world and there is no end in sight to his dominance, nor an opponent who would do that.
    1989:
The end of Mike Tyson is in sight. Knockout wins continue, but the "hunger" for Mike Tyson's success disappears. The assault on the roof of the world ends with 37 victories, of which 33 by knockout (of which 17 in the first round).

I believe it was. Prime Tyson was good, he had skills and was disciplined like others have stated. But the list of fighters he beat in his prime is not impressive when you really look into it. People just never saw that kind of explosiveness and brutality before and overhyped him. He came at the perfect time in the 80s when TV was really getting bigger and he was marketed ferociously which helped his brand. People didn't care who he fought, they just wanted to see him destroy another human being like in the roman colosseum days.

disagree it was an awful era. And the brilliant eastern euro/soviet union countries couldnt turn pro then so the field was weaker, almost all his opponents were American lol. I thought you'd know this considering you're Makhmudov & Beterbievs number 1 fan.
