Let’s start a debate… This is one I know always gets people arguing lol

Golovkin and Ward have been going at it again on Twitter. This is a rivalry that’s gone on for years but unfortunately it looks like one of those where we’ll never see them fight…

Although Ward is actually a year younger than Golovkin and we know GGG wants to continue fighting. So 2 questions…

First one: Although it’s unlikely what would have happen if Ward came out of retirement now and fought GGG at 168?

And second one: Who would have won had they fought at 168 in their primes?

My money would be on Ward in both.

Almost everyone would agree that Ward would have outpointed GGG at any point of their career. Bigger fighter, smarter, more technically sound, and a stylistic poison for GGG.

Ward beats the **** out of Lil G at anytime even now or tomorrow. Lil G only likes fighting smaller guys.

Kovalev jab dropped Ward. GGG beats him.

I like Golovkin here for several reasons.

    1) He's not so easy to potshot and hold, which is what Ward likes doing.

That's because he likes to get off first with his ATG jab, and we saw how another top shelf jab in Kovalev had Ward in all kinds of trouble. Secondly, Golovkin is as strong AF in the clinch himself thanks to his wrestling background. Gonna be hard tiring him out that way.

    2) Ward likes to break the fighting rythmn of his opponents.

It will likewise be difficult to do that given Golovkin's excellent footwork, and as a result, range control. GGG is the one that is likely to dictate the range where most encounters happen. An adjunct to this is that when Murray tried to maul GGG and impose his size on him, Golovkin took a half step back and nailed him with the uppercut. Yeah, you can clinch GGG but you will pay a price for it.

    3) Golovkin is a clever and well rounded boxer at the top level. He combines a titanium chin together with great stamina and power.

Ward is likewise a clever boxer, and it's one of the reasons he did as well as he did. Ward excels in finding a hole in his opponent's game and exploiting it. In Golovkin there are no holes; he does everything well. Ward's equalizer is his size, but I don't think it is that great that GGG would not be able to handle it.

At 168 GGG is unproven so at that weight I'd be forced to pick Ward

Kovalev carries serious power. Ward also got up and won the fight.

Agreed. But Golovkin's jab is equal if not better. And he's a more disciplined and better conditioned fighter than any version of Kovalev.

Ouch! Tommy Loeffler called Dre out mano e mano. Shot it straight down the line. If Dre has the documents he's been telling us about forever but has never once dared to reveal, well Tommy's calling your bluff. Produce them or forever hold your tongue. Are you going to play or fold, champ? Time to put up or shut up.

And Dre is always doing it to Clenelo too, again it's all one way

I see your points about GGG. He’s a brilliant fighter in most areas. Top level footwork and great at cutting off the ring, but I think Ward can actually move better and control the range better. Also clear holes in GGG’s defence. I agree on the inside and at mid range Golovkin would have the upper hand though. I think we’d see Ward keep it long in this one.

Big G probably earned more for 10 minutes work against Stevie ''Jelly'' Rolls than Dre did for Kovalev I & II, Kessler, Froch and Dawson combined.

And the purse G earned for just one of the Clenelo fights likely eclipsed Dre's entire career earnings.

GGG has the love of the people and you can't put a price on that

He even had the love of the people in Dre's home state

GGG sold more tickets in Dre's home state fighting a ''bum'' than Dre did fighting an undefeated contender and even worse the cost of the tickets for Dre's fight were cheaper.

Golovkin vs ''bum'' Wade attendance - in California Ward's home state

    16,353

Ward vs Barrera - in Oakland

    8,532

    Ticket prices

    Ward vs Barrera

    $300, $150, $100, $50, $25

    Golovkin vs Wade

    $400, $300, $200, $100, $60, $30
