He may have lost the decision here but I think Jack won a lot of fans last night and has elbowed himself to near the front of the UK boxing public conscience. Facing a top 5 P4P boxer in his own back yard is an incredibly hard thing to do but whatever the result the guy with the best boxing skills in there last night was Catterall. So credit where credit is due this was a marvellous performance by a fighter that we must all remember has remained unbeaten in 10 years as a pro. I don't want to see a rematch. The clash of styles resulted in a fight as ugly as I can remember. Josh was also clearly weight drained and I don't think he wants to do that again either. Where next for El Gato?
Josh Taylor will be too much of a coward to rematch him, especially after getting his ass whooped. That's 2 fights now that have resulted in Josh Taylor being left with a vagina eye, Catterall and Progais. Both of whom have been refused a rematch by this low class, dirty SOAB
Taylor will vacate so Catterall will be a world champion anyway just against someone else, he's too good not to be
A rematch is an insult to Catterall. He did everything right from the moment training camp started, and stayed professional through the delay which I now find suspect. Taylor cannot fight at super welterweight anymore, so a rematch wouldn't make sense anyway. Surely Lopez or Haney isn't possible... he'd deserve it being the undisputed champion
I'm hoping Catterall takes this as a lesson - when you are well up in a fight and bossing the affair - DON'T take your foot off the gas. Maybe Taylor's bodywork - as scrappy as it was - was starting to tell, but Jack looked like he might have even been able to stop Taylor after the KD in round 8, with Taylors legs stiffening up whenever tagged. Jamie Moore might also regret his advice to El Gato that saw him coast in the last 4 rounds and allow Taylor to win rounds that - regardless of the home cooking- cost Catterall the decision
He may well be but he should be undisputed World Super Lightweight Champion of the world with the Ring Magazine Belt to boot and No1 in the division.
He seems absolutely gutted looking at his social media post about the match — I wouldn't be surprised if he loses his passion for the sport; this was his one big fight where everything aligned for him. Imagine that — he could have been undisputed today! He might never have such an opportunity again. It must suck a lot and I feel sorry for him, as someone who was rooting for Taylor.
