2/26/2022... He thought the only element one needs for success in boxing is to look "outrageous and entertaining". (He said as much beforehand) The knock-down Hector Garcia scored scared him to death, and his only concern thereafter was to survive and not be humiliated any worse. (By the way, terrible stoppage in the Russell / Postol fight too! Shouldn't have been that way. Once again, someone benefits from bungling officials. Then Brian Custer got it wrong too... he said the viewers "agreed" with the stop. But actually, the question was "Do you agree with the referee stopping the fight"? 11% voted Yes. 89% voted No)
Postol stoppage didn't make a difference. He would have lost no matter what. No Hail Mary to be had. Postol never landed anything of signicance in the entire fight to that point, none to zero chance of him landing a fight changing shot in the last minute of the fight. Colbert had a rude wake up call in the middle of the fight and like you said, went into survival mode. His arrogance and confidence led to his lack of preparation. Listen to his pre fight interviews. Doesn't watch opponents films, says he doesn't change his style, but his opponents need to adapt to his. His approach to the sport is that of a fool. Hopefully he humbles himself, learns to respect his opponents and study, study study.
I feel for Chris... Gutted! honestly! I'm being completely sincere here! Why doesn't anyone believe me?!
Postal was ****ed from the start. No way his heart was in that fight knowing his family and children are in Ukraine.
Colbert will be fine that wake-up call was much needed.. If anything this further explains why guys play it safe when it comes to late replacement opponents..
Colbert let his head get to big. He thought Garcia was just coming on short notice for the paycheck WRONG!!!! He humiliated him beat the heck out of him in other words he kicked his ass!!!!! Saddest part was Bayless let Colbert run He did NOTHING in rounds 11 & 12 but run away ref should have said Either you fight back or I stop the fight He looked like Coco the clown in there what an idiot
It's a real pity for Chris that he was so taken with himself that he didn't even waste his time watching tape on his opponent. One look, he'd have probably developed an asymptomatic case of Covid, pulled out and spared himself this beating. Because I certainly knew he was ****ed the moment I laid eyes on Hector Garcia.
no urgency after he got knocked down, just got on his bike. Not a good look. That was a do or die moment for his career trajectory and he failed it.
His whole fight was a big failure from start to end. A total nonsense. I cant be more disapointed, tbh.
Not sure if this fight helped and humbled him. Probably won’t see how he really does until he steps up his competition which won’t happen for a long time. He will be feed toss up fight to build back his confidence.
I always hate that when boxers don't watch tapes of their opponents. I think it's a huge mistake, either they think they are so good it doesn't matter what their opponent does, or they simply lack the ability to fight any other way than they do, both are huge red flags for any boxer.
More of a case of no game plan. He would of needed to watch tapes of his opponent to actually come up with a game plan. He was basically going in blind and paid the price.
Reminds me a lot of the Madiana/Broner fight. Colbert and AB did not know how to deal with a guy that did not fear their power, take a punch to give a punch and moved forward all fight. Surely Colberts people will keep him away from guys like Garcia for a while. I don't see them going right back into a rematch.
