100% spot on, exactly why I think Taylor has regressed under Davidson

Remember the complete demolition job JT did on common opponent Ohara who only lost by a single point of two of the judge's cards against Catterall and there are plenty out there who feel he beat him?

I know styles make fights but go watch how brilliant JT looked against Davies. Skilful, some delicious punch picking, defensively responsible, blending defence and attack seamlessly. He looked pure quality as he has in all of his other previous fights

Probably the most interesting thing to note from that was McGuigan not seeming at all confident on Josh @147 - "stay at 140, he loses too many advantages moving up"

That makes me really interested following the Caterrall fight as to whether or not Josh really has been elite, or he has flatterred to deceive in some ways.

I think he IS/WAS elite around the Prograis / Ramirez fightes, but for some reason during the Catterall fight he abandoned pretty much all the great things he exhibited on the way up - jab? non-existant. right-hand? absent. High ring IQ and adjustments? not on display

How much of that was related to the weight cut, and how much was related to Davidson's training, that I really don't think plays into TTT's strengths at all - could be sour grapes, but Shane was fairly scathing on that in the vid - why is he fighting that way?

Taylor looked awful. It's that simple. Cattrell just out hustled him and out smarted him. Taylors next fight will be revealing.

Not many have improved or done terribly well after leaving Shane have they ? Apparently, the McGuigan gym is an absolute torture factory and lads burn out there badly and I understand that's a tough environment but Boxing's about winning. No joy in coming second.

The irony is that this guy is very similar to Davison. The main difference is he had a famous boxer father. Take that out, now what?

They were both amateur boxers who didn't have great success so stopped to become young trainers.
They have both been criticised as PE teachers / fitness trainers because of this and because they both talk a lot of spin about ''modern methods'' and do fashionable nutritionalist/fitness industry routines and come across like bs artist personal trainers.
They both got lucky charming big talents to come work for them and give them a huge profile.
They are both good talkers comfortable in front of the camera, like the attention.
They are both smarter than most trainers which gives them an edge in the bs department.

It's hard to pick between them, really. I'd say Shane is more corrupt based on a fighter leaving due to really dodgy money dealings with that family. So in the end I'd stick with Davison as he wouldn't rob you to the same degree. But Davison was better back at the first Wilder fight where he just seemed to have his head down more.

I wouldn't trust either at this stage. There's too much spin flying around. The reality is you could give anyone on this forum Frampton, Groves, Taylor, Fury and we'd do very well with them if they showed up to the gym, sparred, did pads with an assistant and were given basic cliche instructions during a fight. And if they're pre-trained, it's a piece of cake. Look at that hippy Paddy guy Groves had, he almost got a win over Froch and Badou Jack while showing up with flip flops.

I agree, not that their methods and philosophies are necessarily alike, but that McGuigan is rather overrated and not particularly better as a technique coach than Ben.

I would prefer the thicker Adrianna (?). I wonder if both routinely bang big name fighters.

    Leonard struggling.

Catterall is a tidy solid fighter, strong and I thought this could be tougher then most people. Well rounded fighters with a good game plan and confidence can give more talented fighters alot of trouble.

Ben Davison was an amateur boxer?

From what I know he first stepped foot in a boxing gym at age 23, mere months before he became a "world class" trainer.
