Absolutely but sometimes just moving a heavy object is impressive.

For example, your namesake did not do push ups; he did earth-downs.
Even if he only moved the planet imperceptibly (likely to not disturb our orbit), I must give him a lot of credit for it.

When Chuck Norris does roadwork, he runs a 4-minute mile … in 2 minutes.

If sleep is the cousin of death, death is the son of Chuck Norris.

These Chuck Norris jokes will never die - and neither will Chuck.

He warps time and space - if only Stephen Hawking put all his time into studying Chuck he would’ve completed his elusive Theory of Everything (TOE).

Chuck is the Alpha and the Omega, the Yin and Yang, the Kama Sutra from A to Z, The Big Bang, etc. etc.

….making Chuck the Uncle of sleep or sleep the nephew/niece/non-binary of Chuck - I love relationship puzzles.

Forget the “IF”, it isn’t in Chuck’s vocabulary but exactly how much wood can a Chuck Norris chuck?

Are press ups still favoured for power ? Or have more modern methods taken over ?

I don't think push ups will do anything at all for power. Nothing but good form and practice helps.

By the way George Foreman did 4x25 but they were archer push ups. Lot more impressive.

Being in the Army taught me that. I trained hard for basic training. Lots of push-ups. First day at Leonard Wood we had a pushup contest in the barracks. I won it easy with 72. Nobody was close. They accused me of being on steroids.

Point is when boot camp starts its not about how many you can do. They make you hold front leaning rest while they yell at guys in your platoon. That is a different burn altogether.

I can do 30 straight chin ups and do routines of chin ups, pull ups, and variations, 15 at a time, until I get to 100-120.

Push ups are very underated and yes they can improve power.
There are alot of push up variations and the mistake alot of people make is they just do one variation.
Try diamond push ups and see how difficult they are.
Or wall push ups and see how hard those are.
If you are doing alot of push ups and you start finding them easy try elevating your feet and watch how the push ups become more difficult.

At one point in my life I could do 180 without stopping. My father who is a tremendous athlete once did close to 400 in a push up contest with this retired marine we knew. He claimed he felt he could keep going but he had already won by a few dozen. I imagine a pro athlete who practices regularly could do 1000 or more with little effort provided they see the benefit. My dad switched to weights because of fears of shoulder injury. A few years ago I got into pushups again and I found liked doing sets with a short break in between a lot more then just doing as many as I could. You can really increase your max very quickly with that.
