Biggs was on a destructive path in his personal life. The Duva's attempted to get the most money for him and especially themselves before he crashed and burned. That's the reason for the rush into the Tyson fight.
Simms was an interesting person. Obviously a nutter like many other fighters . Strange how some fighters can be brutal inside the ring but normal outside while others can't switch off.
It's a vast minority that can't switch off. There are literally thousands of men and women that can credit the Martial Arts ( Boxing, Karate, Kung Fu, Mai Thai, other fighting systems) with installing discipline in their lives. That discipline they used to spring board to success in other area's of their lives. I came from that same environment Simms grew up in. Maybe worse. I took that piece of rope thrown to me from The Martial Arts , never let it go, pulled my mind and body from the poverty, violence and racism I saw at a very early age. To now about to retire after almost 30yrs in law enforcement. That's the story of most who while never having the luck, skills, or backing to go on to the ultimate reward of whatever Martial arts they may be involved in like a championship, it guided them to success in other endeavors. If taken seriously the hard work and discipline one can gain from fight training can be used as a spring board for living life itself. It certainly worked for me.
Biggs was a fantastic boxer, a shame he never picked up a world championship. He had everything, good balance, stiff quick jab, good movement and a great boding brain.. I still watch reruns of his early fights today.
If you have a broken collarbone, any blow to your body or head is going to hurt because the broken bone is impacted. And the broken collarbone occured early in the fight. I'm sure that played a HUGE part in the comment "everywhere he would land it would bother me." Jab someone to the stomach who has a broken collarbone, it will hurt them. Punch someone in the arm if they have a broken collarbone, it will hurt. Hit someone in the side of the head if they have a broken collarbone, it will hurt. Sims was a hard puncher, but lots of people bowled him over. He couldn't even beat Biggs after Biggs suffered a broken collarbone early on. Marin is also an odd pick. I don't see him as a defensive genius at all. Nobody seemed to have much trouble blasting him out.
Jeez I looked up Sims, surprised Biggs named him the best & hardest puncher. Saw his fight with Bonecrusher, he had little left then. There is a whole documentary on him, but all I needed to know was that he did not quite have nine lives-the 8th time he was shot killed him.
