Based on the film available, Schmeling wins, and handily too

Schmelling is often underrated, a smart fighter had a good chin, was probably the 2nd hardest puncher of his prime time (Baer#1), and was quite scientific for the period. Remember, an aging, somewhat inactive Max outboxed and took out a PRIME Louis, the only man to pull off that feat. Would the Louis of that fight have lost to the Boiler Maker?

    Herr Maxie gets a TKO/KO by 10

    big deal!

all they had back then was Sharkey (also knocked out by an aged Dempsey), Carnera,

there just wasnt enough talent back then and even inspired bum of the month movement

Johnson DID spot it, then pointed it out to Schmeling.

You just didnt know about it until I told you

You have no idea what you're talking about.
Show me a credible source saying that Johnson contacted Schmeling before the first fight, I'm waiting.

Yes I think you would lose your cash. I don't really consider the Louis fight, as stylistically Jeffries is a harder fight for Schmeling than Louis. I think Jeffries would break Schmeling down to the body and stop him in the 15-20 range after being thoroughly outboxed for most of the fight.

At the risk of sounding like a modernist, I don't find Jeffries impressive on film. I'll take Schmeling on this one.

Louis also beat Baer ,before he fought Schmeling, having beaten him and knowing Baer had kod Schmeling Louis got complacent and spent his time playing gold and chasing *****.Schmeling spotted Louis did not return his left glove to the guard position after jabbing,he learned this after watching Louis fight, and there is a clip of him being asked what his impressions of Louis were in the stadium."I see something's but I won't tell." Johnson told him nothing ,they arrived at their respective conclusions independently.

Very good assessment. Jeffries strength and smothering could drain most fighters.

Triple J comes from behind and KO's Max in 14.

Jeffries was big and tough, he would wear down the smaller faster and excellent boxer puncher in Schmelling.

Jeffries would get rocked, maybe even knocked down. But barring Max closing JJJ eyes or getting a cut stoppage, I see Max finally being worn down.

I simply do not think Schmeling had the durability to last the distance with Jeffries. Jeff by KO in similar fashion to what Baer did.

I view it the same. Unfortunately there is no clear film in Jeffries except for his work out clips.

Hard fight to pick because like many poster above have said, I agree that Jeffries style is a problem for Max. Jeffries was a big dude and extremely physical with his wrestling, clinching and shoving. That would tire Max out, on the flip side Schmeling was a Great puncher. Not good, great. And I’m not sure how many educated right hands Jeffries could ship over and over off the side of his face. Quite simply the guys Jeffries fought don’t throw punches with the technique and precision of Max.

Fitz did. A deadly accurate puncher he was.
