Name the fighter who stands out as supremely unlucky -- be it robberies, *documented* injuries, bribed refs, close family dying at inopportune times before big fights, or what have you.

Which fighter had the most verifiable, completely 100% legitimate excuses for their bad performances?

Only fight I ever saw of him was against Bivins. Looked worse than mediocre, but had to admire it.

Modern day example would be if s cancer survivor was lasting the distance in the ring. People would make a huge deal of it.

Back before they invented cruiserweight, I'd say any 180-190 pound guy had an excuse, being stuck between 2 divisions.

James Toney can't make weight against Roy, that's what you get for being undisciplined.

Andy Ruiz on the other hand is way too light against Arreola

Eddie Machen boxed a draw with Cleveland Williams shortly before being found with a gun and a suicide note.

Cerdan's injury against LaMotta seemed legit enough.

Williams is a good call. Excuses don't get much better than gunshot wounds.

Didn’t James J Braddock lose a few while on what they called the “Bread Line”? Literally taking fight while starving. And a broken hand.
