Indeed, & if Tyson lands a flush full power atomic bomb, it may be all over very quickly, look at the first right hand he landed on Holyfield, 99% of Heavyweights would've been KO'd by that in my opinion, but not the armour-plated Holy. :shock:

True, he also had better timing & accuracy, to land perfect counters he didn't see coming, as Tyson was throwing all this weight forward with each bomb, falling into his shots.

 

In both Frazier goes Jerry just got beat down from Joe's power and Mike here still hits harder then Joe. Unless Mike forgoes the body attack Jerry would have wilted around the seventh.

 

I think both had about the same power and it came mostly from their counter-punching. Neither possessed "heavy hands" exactly. The difference is Holyfield's greater strength however, without it he would have had trouble dealing with Tyson's early rushes.

 

The first fight was more so about Frazier's relentless attack and conditioning doing a job on Quarry rather than his power. Don't forget that Quarry was hitting him with everything in the early rounds.

Tyson KO in 3. Tyson at this stage was still too fast, powerful & lethal for Quarry. Quarry could beat Post 97 Tyson - but still it's not a given as Tyson was still dangerous even into the early 00s.

 

I love quarry but I don’t think he beats Mike Tyson. He might give a good account of himself

 

A few random observations:

* Quarry reminds me of the early heavyweight version of Holyfield. Then again, very few people agree with me on this.

* Quarry is probably not going to outwrestle Tyson like Holyfield did. He is significantly smaller than later career Holyfield.

* Quarry never fought in the PED era.

* Quarry *did* demonstrate a good amount of resilience and ability against punchers: Shavers, Foster, Lyle.

* Quarry had uneven results against Patterson, who may be closer to Tyson than anybody else available in that era.



So it's hard to say. I don't see Quarry getting blown out, simply because that didn't happen to him against punchers. But I don't think he has many tools to really win this, either.

 

No offense but why bump this thread, if you think it's a foregone conclusion (as do I)?

I'm a big Quarry fan but I see a repeat of the Frazier fights here. I know that Frazier / Tyson is a lazy comparison but they had power, intensity and work rate in common at their respective best.
Jerry was not used to fighting short, tight hooking types as he was almost always the smaller man throughout his career.
1996 was the last time Tyson was a shadow of his formidable self from a decade earlier and the tools he has left are all wrong for Quarry.
I pick Tyson here after the 6th. Quarry probably upright, probably covered in his own blood, probably protesting vehemently.
Eighteen months later, Jerry destroys Mike.

 

Quarry is no Holyfield. Holyfield was a rock solid 218 pounds against Tyson and was a better fighter than Quarry. Tyson would wreck Quarry.
