Anyone here think this could be karma biting Alex in the ass? Its not like his a clean living guy like his brother Fedor. Either way its a dam shame.

Isn't hepatitis B a genetic disease? meaning no matter what lifestyle he led he would have developed it anyway?

I'm not a physician but those tats he got in the gulag could be the reason for this. A guy I worked with got a tattoo in Northern Ireland a couple of decades ago and recently turned up positive for the same strain as Aleks. This news totally sucks ass cause this guy is loaded with talent and promise. I wish he and his lovely wife and two young children all the best. He should be okay financially and his health is is certainly all he has to worry about.

I hate to see Aleks retire. He was very exciting in the ring - always bringing a good fight.

Perhaps he can be the opponent for Tommy Morrison's next MMA fight?

Chageav had it and came back, most people do, but some never fully get rid of it.

Can be genetic. Likely, though, if he is getting tatoos from dirty needles, then that's the source. This does not mean his career is over per se; there are medications that he could take to help him develop antibodies. On the flip side, his opponents could get vacinations to prevent contracting Hep B from mixing blood during the fight. However, I doubt sanctioning bodies would go for that. More likely, they would just ban him.

I'd be more worried about his wife and two kids. They all probably have it at this point which is sad.

True, it is unfortunate. But, medicines in the past few years can make it so that his family can live a normal life without too many complications.
