What would happen if Greb, Langford and Robinson square up against each other in their primes? Maybe we would have to make a catchweight at about 165, because of the size difference between Langford and Greb/Robinson. Who would win against who, and how would their records look like?
Sugar Ray Robinson knocks out Harry Greb cold in the first round. Sam Langford would look like some unskilled street fighter against The Sugar Man. P4P GOAT boxers lists are never complete without the Cobra, whom I believe knocks all of those fighters out cold.
Why sure he would lose? It ain’t like Robinson was unbeatable at middleweight an above plus Greb was good enough to be the only man ever to beat Tunney. You think it’s a sure thing that Robinson would beat a light heavyweight Tunney as well? Yeah Robinson would be favoured to beat anyone at his best weight at welterweight but both Greb an Langford. would have a more than average chance of beating him at middleweight an about. It ain’t a sure thing at all that Robinson will definitely win.
Tunney was overrated due to his wins against an inactive old Dempsey, never fought any prime quality heavyweights besides Gibbons, wouldn't fight Sharky, never fought a single black person in his entire career, etc. Without footage of Greb, it's hard to say, but Robinson had the style and footwork to likely keep him away.... I don't think its fair to go off only personal accounts with no footage as they become glamorized over time... Based on Robinsons technique and the limited info we have on Greb I feel he tires out Greb and wins a decision. Robinson would tire him out and keep making him miss his volleys.
Greb would have jumped all over Robinson at middleweight, with Ray looking like a dog mauled rag doll at the finish.
You want to put Tommy's sub-par chin up against Langford? I rate him really highly P4P too because his combo of speed, power, reach, and light weight is insane, BUT he's a bit of a glass cannon.
I might favor Greb at middleweight against Robinson, not to say Ray wouldn't get a win if they fought multiple times but while Robinson was practically unbeatable at welterweight middleweight is a different story. I wish we had video of Greb ...
Yep, resume and style. I figure if LaMotta could crowd Ray so could Greb. And Greb was a better fighter than LaMotta
