He retired once when WW was hot. Then retired officially after Berto. His farcical bouts w/ McGregor or whatever were sideshow circus acts.

He is the GOAT of the fight game. Self promotion, playing the villian and ect.

Let me start by saying I think Mayweather is a superb boxer. He could teach a trigonometry class a thing or two about angles. He is so good defensively he can leave opponents dazed without even throwing a punch.

That being said Floyd never cared about his legacy more than he cared about Floyd. Floyd wasn’t a fighter, he was a businessman. Mayweather played a game of chess when it came to matchmaking and chose the path of least resistance.

He waited six years so that he could face a much less supersonic version of the Pacquiao who tore through Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito.

The Oscar De La Hoya Mayweather jr faced had lost two of his previous four contests (and one of the wins, against Felix Sturm, was widely disputed).

Cotto and Shane Mosley were also past their peaks when after years of trying they finally stepped into the ring with Mayweather. Floyd didn’t unify more because he chose the path of least resistance towards his goals which were to make a ton of money and retire undefeated.

Floyd could have been the goat but chose not to be.

I have no problem at all with someone declaring him the GOAT

I think he is right up there

Problem is that I think it is very hard to judge fighters and opponents when you haven't first hand witnessed an era.
Even watching old videos isn't the same as having experienced an era

With Floyd, many of us on here have been able to watch his whole career, and what an amazing career it has been.
So many forget or weren't watching when Floyd started at SFW.
Just look at what he did at SFW with beating G Hernandez to win his first world title. People forget now but his first defense was against Manfredy who was a top SFW at the time and I think ranked #2. He beat Corrales who was a top SFW (before you say Corrales was weight drained he fought at SFW 3 years later) who some tipped to win. At SFW he beat C Hernandez who went on to become a SFW world champ and Chavez who went on to become a SFW champ.
Wins over Juuko, Ndou and Sosa were all good wins at the time
This is all before he is remembered at WW

Yes I think Floyd could have an argument to be rated the GOAT

Simple fact is he didn't have the bottle or ability to become undisputed in any weight class. His accomplishments mean less than Usyk who truly is Gods gift to boxing.

Bro you dumb Floyd was one of the most historically ducked fighters of his era, it’s literally videos of guys like Oscar and Mosley even Pacquiao refusing to fight Floyd and even with that was Loneal champ and defeated the number 1 rated fighter at least twice in every division. Y’all got to get off the Floyd hate train
