Know this is the British forum but there tends to be more sense in here and there's plenty womens' boxing chat... Is there a more likely future icon for the sport of boxing than Mikaela Mayer? She keeps winning, she's a smart and credible talker, seems to be pretty down-to-earth, good looking without seeming desperate to sell it, former Olympian taking her time to do the pro ranks right, and most of all she has an entertaining front-foot style that seems to work... if nothing goes off the rails in the next year or two she'll be swimming in Nike money for sure. Compare to the people we put up with here - Taylor hyped as unbeatable and iconic but horrible to watch; the likes of Cameron, Rankin and so on, nice women but not marketable, shameless self-promoters who can barely box like Courtenay and Bridges - and then the chip shop workers and working mums. Most of them will be cheap filler on undercards or selling their used underwear into their late 30s and the successful ones like Taylor still won't be on male megabucks.
I really like Mikaela she comes across as a really amiable young lady and she can fight.Looking forward to see how much she can achieve in her career
When she was casing Harper she annoyed me something chronic But recently i have to agree with most of the OP A good role model for the girls
Unlike other sports, it's all part of the same setup and like other sports, women's boxing is not going away. Embrace it and call out when it's decent.
I judge fights on quality not gender and the majority of women’s fights are crap but if a good one does crop up I’ll give credit where it’s due in the same way I would a men’s fight. I remember being at the O2 for one of Katie Taylor’s early fights and everyone went to the bar/toilet as it was clearly a mismatch but on the other hand I was in New York when she fought Persoon and everyone was in their seat with eyes glued to the action. If the fight is good they’ll get credit but they shouldn’t get an automatic pass on to a card just to tick a box.
Until recently I had the same opinion as you and switched over when the women came on. But it's not going away and if anything Sky will double down on womens' fights in the next few years, so I'm trying to put forward an argument for one individual woman boxer worth following.
Her name is Savannah Marshall. Not interested in how the females from outside of the UK perform. The only female fight that will easily put bums on seats this year is Marshall v Shields.
coruse it will on mens card lol otherwise might... might fill york hall with one thousand paying to get in
Much bigger fight than Taylor Serrano for me. History between the pair, bit of needle, big puncher v slick boxer and it’ll land in the UK.
