This is false. Matthews Don C and Lastarza were prime fast of foot opponents who were excellent boxers. Flawed in some ways but certainly not footwork wise and they were all prime age. Charles was a whooping 32 years of age. Let’s at least be honest Also people with bad balance get knocked down a lot in their career. You can’t be a pro at those levels with bad balance. Another myth stemming from his early fights when he did have poor balance. By the time he was fighting challengers he was more polished and obviously had great balance. You don’t have power without it nor stay on your feet
Omg this is so false it’s ridiculous. He does not move forward with the back foot first. Nor does he cross his feet. Stop mixing up his early career with the best version. We don’t even have footage of this false Marciano. He was obviously well balanced or he would have been floored all over the place. He also wouldn’t have any knock outs because you can’t get power without balance. Especially at the highest levels. It’s laughable to think actually.
The only time Byrd was crushed in his career, and it happened to be in his prime was against Ibeabuchi. Ibeabuchi was very aggressive like Marciano, though he was much bigger and faster. But the key word here is aggressive. Marciano, though not as fast or as strong , as Ibeabuchi, would be in Byrds chest, hitting what ever available. His hips, arms, shoulders, thighs, slowly grinding him down. Unlike a Holmes or Ali, Byrd didn't possess the firepower to make Marciano take pause. Way to beat a southpaw is lead rights or, aggression. Marciano had the aggression in spades, also the endurance. Byrd wasn't a hugh Heavyweight, his best fighting weight probably was at Middleweight, where he fought as a amateur. He probably would've been a ATG Lt.heavy as a pro, if he dedicated himself to fight at the weight through out his career. In a 12rd fight, Byrd probably does enough to survive and win, though rds 8 through 12 would be hell for him as Marciano would hit him everywhere but the bottom of his feet. 15rds? I see Marciano doing just enough to get a dec, or maybe a late stoppage. In other words, Marciano matches up much better against Byrd than most world class heavyweights of the last 50-60 yrs and definitely shouldn't be counted out against him. Is Byrd that much better skilled than Charles , Walcott, Moore, or old Louis though being slightly naturally heavier and a southpaw? Very doubtful in my opinion .
Oh hello... Marciano against a fighter that can't remotely hurt him ........ Byrd might die in the ring. RIP.
Marciano via close UD. Byrd has a lot of success early - making Marciano miss while effectively countering. However, he is unable to hurt Marciano or stop him from coming in. Marciano digs, works & grinds Byrd down with hard arm, body, hip, shoulder & elbow shots - working him all over & occasionally landing some head shots that shake up Byrd. Byrd goes the distance (as some have already pointed out he's very durable) but loses a close, competitive decision.
If Chris Byrd has a Red-winged black bird sitting on his shoulder while fighting Marciano then he stands a chance..maybe..
Marciano is alot trickier and more clever than the gross simplification of "come forward slugger". Give him 600mg trenbolone acetate and some EPO and he has Byrd easily imo
