Can’t believe Luces got a decision in QLD good fight and he deserved it when I heard them reading the cards for a split I thought for sure the Queenslanders were up to their old tricks
Top fight. Luces getting a close decision seemed fair. Dana can hold his head up high and learn a lot from that. Played with fire putting on the earmuffs and letting Luces tee off but he stood up to the pressure and didn't wilt. Took some big shots and wore them well. Just needs a bit more polishing on his defence and using his feints. Hope he doesn't get discouraged by this.
I couldn't really give a round to Dana, he is talented but played the counter puncher too much, ate loads of punches to counter with a couple. Was getting walked down the whole fight and was getting out landed while waiting to counter Not sure who was doing the punch count to have it about even. Phil Austin was trying to cook a home town decision with his scoring as usual so no suprise there.
Great fight between Sokolov and Pope. Must say these cards are great value, far better than some of the rubbish the bigger promoters serve up. Just getting through the card now after falling asleep after the Pampellone fight haha.
* Kambosos Jr has built his own gym and new Aust trainer in Ronnie Sinclair. His US trainer Javier Centeno will be arriving next week with sparring partners with top prospect Xander Zayas as main sparring partner. https://www.revolutionise.com.au/boxing/view/online/&id=dsjmw6m7aaujfyyt
Kambosos gym looks nice. Zayas is a gonna be great for sparring I heard he will be on the under card I wonder if they will fly an opponent out for him or if some poor Aussie is gonna donate his body for a beating. Speaking of gyms I heard that Paul Gallen has his own gym now not sure if that is correct?
Sokolov has made it to my list of favorite Aussie fighters for his next fight he should come out dressed as Johnny Drama from Viking Quest
Mixed results for my guys last night. Popey broke his hand in the third which certainly didn’t help things. Great fight and Sokolov is a handy customer. Jason was a touch rusty in the first round and said in between that his opponent was really awkward. Felt he was just reaching in too much. Made the adjustment quickly though and what a knockout shot. Whateley certainly possesses fight changing power. Really disappointed for Dana. We felt he edged it, landing the cleaner shots and catching plenty of Luces’ shots on the gloves etc. That said, he will learn from it. Everyone was wrapped about his performance/personality and he will bounce back likely on the Huni v Goodall card. Hope everyone enjoyed the fights!
Totally agree regarding Dana champ. I watched the fight by myself/no distractions. I was very surprised that Luces got the decision. A lot of people are giving Luces credit for his workrate, but he was outlanded in most rounds, and as you said Dana blocked/evaded a lot of punches, and took a lot of punches on the gloves etc. I didn't see Luces land nearly as many clean punches to the scoring area of the body as Dana. Luces blocked nearly nothing.
Spoke to Dana today and he’s watched it twice and thinks he deserved the nod. I haven’t watched it again. Live at ringside Dana definitely lost the 6th and 7th from memory but so many of Luces’ shots were parried in other rounds. While it’s a kick in the guts, his talent is obvious. Only had 30 odd amateurs too, so we will look to build him and give him more experience.
Luces was pretty awkward though and made Dana miss some with his upper body movement. That's why I feel there is so much to take out of that fight for Dana. The other kid was pretty good and relentless. Dana didn't shy away from that at all. Mastering feints and timing can take a whole career but he has that natural ability that will see him get a feel for it a lot sooner than most if he can stay focused on the game.
He will definitely stay focused. He’s one of the nicest people you’ll meet outside of a boxing ring. Has a kid on the way. Honestly, the kind of kid that deserves whatever support he earns. Back on the horse before long!
