I do not see much changing.

Ali did not have an iron chin (it was merely very good), but what he did have was a great heart and perhaps the best mastery of boxing psychology of any fighter.

What? One does not simply will themselves through flush shots from Earnie Shavers.

Uncrackable? do you know how many times he was dropped and seriously hurt? I think his will to win is more appropriate

You're claiming Ali would get hit repeatedly by Frazier's left hook.

I'm saying he wouldn't because he was faster, moved better and was much harder to hit in the 60's when he was in his prime.

So, yeah, I think that is relevant to this thread if he isn't going to get hit anywhere near as often as you claim.

Indeed they do not; they also need to be smart and make Acorns question themselves.

Even in that fight, he was very lucky the punch came at the end of the round. He was badly hurt and disoriented. Had it not been for his camp cheating by giving him smelling salts, he might have lost then and there.
When he came back in the 70s, he had a better chin.
Without it, he'd suffer a few more defeats. But not that many, since his opponents rarely landed big (exception being Frazier and Shavers).

If it wasn't good, his style would probably be different

I know. Wonder what the next thread will be? How does Ali do with 25 kg bag strapped to his back?!

Rather pointless post really, how good was Frazier minus left hook, how good was Liston minus his Jab, how good was Johnson without his defence, what a pointless and meaningless question .

If he had Patterson's jaw, probably not much. In 64 pro fights, Patterson was only stopped by a punch to the head by Ingo and Liston. (Floyd's losses to Ali were via a cut and a bad back).

Ali beat Quarry twice, Ellis, Bonavena, Cooper twice, Chuvalo twice, Moore ... Patterson fought all those guys, too, and none of them knocked out Floyd, either.

I don't recall Sonny Liston doing anything in the Lewiston fight that would cause Ali to go down if he had Patterson's chin. I also don't recall Liston landing any bombs on Ali in their first fight. So that's a wash, too.

Norton broke Ali's jaw and won. Maybe Ken gets a TKO. Maybe not.

Joe Frazier didn't land a lot of head shots against Ali in fights 2 and 3. Not like he did in the first fight.

Maybe George Foreman wins. Maybe Shavers in the second round in 1977.

    Otherwise, not much.
