Buddy McGirt vs Simon Brown

A priceless treasure. McGirt holds class over even the most clever boxing guys in that one especially.

 

If you were to create a let’s say as you put it a time capsule to incase and share boxing with the world, I think that one couldn’t go wrong with the solely skilled fighters such as the McGirt type and making them as the majority content. These folks whom aren’t the biggest guys or the most athletic the ones that won because they are better boxers should be priority.

Another to preserve is “Taming a beast” Bueno taught us a lot in his fight with Moon. If ever there was a demonstration for skill overwhelming a brute this is it. Moon was a much, much more gifted albeit crude and destructive force then anyone in the division and P4P he epitomised the prize fighting barbarian. Bueno teaches us boxing itself here.

 

Mayweather: I would actually want to preserve the Canelo fight. Although he was past his physical prime and was dealing with brittle hands, this was PEAK Mayweather in terms of defensive genius/sweet science. Possibly one of the finest displays of defense ever. Everything was on point.

Mike McCallum vs Michael Watson. A masterclass performance.

Sugar Ray Robinson vs Gene Fuller 3, 1960 Los Angeles. If he boxed that well at 39 he must have been something at 25.

 

Mike McCallum, I wish he got to have his way and get to face off with Benn, Eubank and the entire British squad he’d be there master and we’d have a few more fonder memories of the Bodysnatcher.

 

Bob Satterfield vs Nino Valdes - A great crowd pleaser decides to fight a smart fight by utilizing every single one of his tools to beat a much larger foe. Satterfield counterpunching, crouching and weaving and his aggression was extremely sharp that night. It was a masterclass of offense and defense.

Bert Cooper vs Willie DeWitt - This one is not a masterclass. The way to rate a devastating punchers performance is by his ability to show massive destruction onto his opponent. This one is definitely a good one, as Cooper portrayed incredible amount of power, punching ability and defense to make a statement of how dangerous he was or should have.

James Toney vs Glenn Wolfe - Just as shown in this fight, Toney's constant moving, rolling and counterpunching made Wolfe look like an amateurish fighter. He was simply beautiful and smooth that night.

Merqui Sosa vs Tyrone Frazier - Going with one of my favourite fighters, Sosa ability to fight of the ropes was amazing that night. His awkward style came to play to confuse his opponent, he showed so much decipline, devastating power and also incredible counter punching. He looks like a guy who can't be beaten in a brawl.

Nicolino Locche vs Paul Takeshi Fuji - Do I need to talk about this? I think we all know why so no need for elaboration.

Marlon Starling vs Lloyd Honeyghan - Starling gave him a terrible pounding. He showed his technical ability to dodge and and punch. Starling made Honeyghan look like an average boxer with no fundamentals.

 

Jose Napoles v Curtis Cokes 1
Maybe the best title-winning performance on film. Cokes was a very good boxer and he was completely schooled by Napoles from start to stoppage.
Honourable Napoles mention: v Emile Griffith later the same year. He completely outboxed a still-live Griffith (who Monzon would struggle with several years later). I don’t think anyone ever outboxed Griffith like that.

Salvador Sanchez v Danny Lopez 1
Another immaculate title-winning performance. Sanchez completely dominated an excellent champion. Yes, stylistically Lopez was probably made to measure for Sanchez (in a way that Cokes wasn’t for Napoles, which is why I rate that one slightly higher) but the rematch between these two, where Lopez did better, shows exactly how ‘on it’ Sanchez was this night. Faultless performance.

 

The triad is complete once you add Willard-Dempsey.

 

I'd put Benn v McClellan in, to show what true, cling on through horrendous pain and everyone doubts you, courage really looks like.
