After the shocking result of Braddock beating Baer, it comes to light that there's a rematch clause in the contract. Six months after the fight, the two meet again. But max has taken this seriously, and vows to knock out Braddock. James J meanwhile is confident himself. I did it once, he says, and I'm pretty sure that I can do it again! Result?
I'd pick Braddock. As a rule, Baer gets overrated a bit, Braddock under-. I think Baer was perfect for Braddock even at his very best. Braddock didn't have much going for him, but he was accurate and Baer was never what you'd call defensively brilliant. I just think it's a nice stylistic overlay for a fighter in an unexpected prime who probably would admittedly have struggled with anyone else of Baer's class. The stars aligned, but not in a weird way.
If Maxie was properly motivated, and by some miracle, had the same mindset against Braddock that he had against Schmeling, then he avenges himself vs Braddock and regains the title.
Either Baer by stoppage or Braddock does it again on points albeit by a slimmer margin than previously
