Whats the point of coming in at 250 lbs?

Its obviously clear that being a whale isnt always an advantage in boxing. Especially not when you are facing a guy who is 5 inches taller and uses that advantage well. Speed would have given Whyte the edge that he needed. The guy had many opportunities to land some good power shots working behind the jab but couldnt follow up because hes slow as molasses.

What the **** are these conditioning trainers and boxing coaches thinking? Would it have killed the whale if he had come in at 220-230 lbs?

Coming in at 230 is unrealistic. If you drop weight too quick, you get weak.
That said, fighters should not let themselves balloon up in between fights.

No, because 210-220 is his natural weight. The guy is carrying a massive amount of fat for a pro athlete, and he had months to shed that weight.

Think Whyte just didnt wanna get leaned on and tired out by Fury's clinching and wrestling. Wilder had the same idea for the trilogy fight.

Hey...I agree that he's carrying way too much weight.
But losing weight too rapidly will drain you. He should be staying in shape all the time so that extra weight is not an issue at all. But he didn't. So, if he started camp at 260 or whatever, losing 30lbs in six weeks is a bad idea.

Come to think of it, Bowe had that problem coming into the second Golota fight. Weight loss drained him. Youre right.

Its a shame though. Heavyweight boxing might have the worst athletes in all of sports.

Whyte pretty much retired after the Parker fight.

If he was 220 he'd be too weak and even more glass chinned.

Whyte had very little chance even if he came in at his optimal perfect weight of 241lbs and 2oz.

They did and they both gassed and ran out of ideas. I think Usyk has the best chance against Fury nearly all other contenders are plodders.
I give Joyce a good chance because for a big man he's got a good gas tank. can keep that pressure up and won't get bullied in the clinch.

Whyte's natural weight without sos and hypertrophy would be somewhere around 220. I agree.

250 isn't too big for Whyte is it? Few lbs more than the Povetkin rematch and less than against Parker which is probably his best win.

I agree with the thread. They are bulking way too much, for pretty much no reason.
You may gain a bit of strength and power, but you obviously are going to lose a lot of speed, both in hands and footwork. On top of that, you are losing cardio, reflexes, and so on.
Also durability/toughness doesn't come from adding 20 or 30 pounds more.
