I was talking in a WhatsApp group about this. He is probably top 5, definitely top 10 most marketable fighters in the world and everybody else you could put in that list is a world champion. (Excluding Jake Paul in this convo). I don't think we will ever see a person who turned over with no fanfare, only ever won ranking belts, ascend to the level he has of consistent 7 figure paydays. Hats off to Hearn, deserves a knighthood for this alone.
Earn certainly reels in those PPV Mugths who still have no idea what they are really buying or watching. Box Office events for me are those very few superstars in 50/50 fights - example Canelo. Earn has sold some real turd over the years yet they still come back to be poked time and again. Paint Dry Parker, Chisora, Whyte, Bellew, Haye and Joshua have no elite qualities between them yet all have amassed a huge mountain of PPV Loot. Now we have the nextgen con being Superstar Connor Benn
As I said in another thread, where would he be had he not had that win over AJ? But the job Hearn did with him and Bellew is nothing short of amazing.
He's definitely been promoted well, but even though he's seen by the majority on here as just a pudding, he still has some half decent wins that were down to his ability. It's not as if Eddie is that good a promoter he could take just anybody and rack up the type of wins Whyte has had to get him to the big stage. If that were the case then Dave Allen would be fighting at Wembley in front of 90k. As I said, Whyte has indeed been promoted very well, but his ability as a fighter played a part too. Whyte might not be very good, but when the top of the division is that thin, then somebody of Whyte's ability is still one of better ones, sadly.
He’s got to be up there. Not taking anything away from Tyson but last night you could see how bad he was. You can blame the wild swinging and missing on Fury but there’s just no excuse for lack of basic fundamentals, footwork etc. he’s terrible.
Gets far to much credit for his efforts in the pro fight with Joshua as well, people make out it was a close fight up to the knockout and a real test for Joshua. In reality he got knocked from pillar to post for the entire fight barring 30 seconds in the second round, complete mismatch.
But we wouldn't have amazing boxing if we didn't fund it. How else would it be funded? @bbjc He couldn't land a glove on Fury, but made Joshua do a funny dance. Beat Joshua's next biggest wins besides Klitschko in Parker and Povetkin. I think this also shows how Joshua isn't all he's cracked up to be.
He must have the widest Ring Earnings to Actual Ability ratio of any boxer ever, barring guys like Jake Paul and Conor McGregor.
Feels like you just want to keep arguing the same point over and over again. The bottom line is although what jurgen says has some sense to it....i can totally see why people will agree with it...the reality is no one really wants to financially back what hes saying anymore. That kind of financial backing left the building a long time ago.
Why do boxers like Whyte need to be paid multiple millions? What amazing boxing has Whyte been involved in?
I agree with you. The only way to fund Chisora millions of pounds is to put it on pay-per-view. Otherwise we would be deprived of those great nights with Chisora headlining. How could any boxing fan live with that?
