Highest hype:performance ratio among failed heavyweight title challengers

After last night, I think a fairly reasonable list is as follows:

1. Dillian Whyte
2. Cooney
3. Carpentier
4. Nova in (Galento out)
5. Jorge Luis Gonzalez

The top three all packed the house, with Whyte being the one who most resembled a journeyman. I'll give Carpentier the benefit of the doubt at three due to his work at 175 when the jump to heavyweight was much smaller. Galento performed well enough against Louis to not be top three. Gonzales scores extremely low on performance, which should consider prime performances in addition to failed title challenge.

Nova replaces Galento for bringing a bigger live gate, being more highly regarded than Galento, and having lost to Galento.

Haye was a champion at heavyweight and a pretty good fighter.

He's not classed as a failed challenger if he won a belt. It's like failing the DMV test before passing. You're a driver like you're a champion.

As for the Wlad fight, he performed pretty well in the first and it wasn't that big of a fight, so there are much better examples out there. Pulev and Brock are the best examples from Wlad's reign.

Nobody is listing Ali against Holmes.
