Yeah I think that was a celebrity death that saddened a lot of people. I’m still a bit resentful of Ade for refusing to do another series a few years before Rik died.
Oh my, how did I not know Rik Mayall had passed? Brilliant comic. I’m American and was absolutely hooked on the ‘Young Ones’ and for several years kept up with some of his work from afar. So sad. RIP.
He also showed why he was demanding as much as he can. That was his one shot at the big time and he knew it. Off to obscurity for him. Gatekeeper level at best.
If he wants it he could take over from Chisora quite comfortably in that role. Decent but not quite good enough and a stern test for anybody.
On the plus side, with him not getting all the ringside seats be wanted, less of his family witnessed it close up.
Would not be a stern test for Wilder or Usyk as he wasn't for Fury. I generally cannot remember him even slightly hurting Fury with a single punch.
I meant as gatekeeper not at world level. I suppose you are right, Chisora can still hold his own at world level and looks like he can still take a shot better than Whyte. I just re watched the fight, Fury controlled the distance perfectly and anytime Whyte was in range Fury tied him up and didn't let him get anything off on the inside, when Whyte threw upstairs he missed by some distance and the few body shots he landed didn't seem to bother him at all. He was also talking to him breaking him down mentally. There was no showboating either, strictly business which showwed he respected Whyte to a degree.
That's what's wrong with these boxers these days. In old days they were grateful for that one shot at the big championship and yes they wanted paying a good purse but not ridiculous. These days the greed got out of hand. Imagine Rocky film being made now. Apollo Creed calls up Rocky Balboa, unknown ham and egg club fighter, and Rocky demands 40%. They argue about split of purse for two hours. The End.
