What exactly was the point of him starting out southpaw for the first round, barely throwing a punch, and then switching? If he and his trainer thought that was a worthwhile tactic, why not stick with it? And if not, why do it at all? And either way, if you do it why not at least throw some punches?
Whyte could retire or become a gatekeeper like Chisora in a string of big fights. If Usyk beats Joshua, I’d love to see Joshua Whyte II. I think Joshua would knock Whyte out again but a great fight for the fans and big money involved for the fighters who are 1/1 against each other.
Indeed. Joshua won 1st world title v Charles Martin at home. Then second time by beating Ruiz in neutral place, when Ruiz only had a 1 week training camp. Fury won his by beating Klitschko in Germany and Wilder in America. Whyte obviously had to fight an ATG for his shot.
Obviously the opposition has been harder but with Tibbs his boxing was much better. Should never have left him.
Wilder beat Stiverne and Parker beat Rice Pudding Ruiz for the other vacant belt - Whyte arrived 5 years too late for his challenge
Yeah good point. Only fighters in recent times who have had to beat very good fighters to become Champion are Fury and Usyk.
Whyte like Wilder are very wealthy. After the hammerings they’ve taken, good sense dictates retiral. At least it could minimise the damage already sustained.
Whyte has not achieved his goal and lives to fight another day - it may come against weaker opposition.
It was to try and throw Tyson off and give him something he would have never expected to think about During the build up we heard numerous times whether Fury would box southpaw, nobody would’ve ever imagined Whyte coming out as a southpaw lol
Agree with all of the above. The thing is, they would only be doing it for for the love of fighting, because neither of them need it for the 'prize'. I know everyone wants to set their families up for life and all that, but even Whyte did that last night - on top of the various PPVs he's headlined. It would be a worthy change if two guys just wanted to settle personal and professional differences without demanding crazy money to do so. Imagine Joshua-Whyte live on ITV for example - it could so easily be built into a national event.
Definitely can be an advantage in periods during the fight. Difference is Usyk would not have same energy he normally does late on as Fury would hit him more than he has ever been hit.
He could have lost quicker if he did. He obviously can't take being hit that much and it could have been an early night.
