Do you remember where you were when Salvador Sanchez's death was announced?

I was just about to turn 21 when I heard on the radio. I was pretty shocked. Unknockable in the ring but taken out by a fancy sports car. Insane

No. I was not yet a hard core boxing fan.

 

I was entering a dress clothing store in Liberty Plaza In Springfield, Massachusetts with my older brother and mother. They were announcing it on the radio that Salvador had died. Very surprised.

 

February 4th, cool.

 

i was probably a couple of weeks away from moving into my freshman college year apartment. I don’t remember where I was when I heard the news, but I know I was saddened because Salvador was one of my favorites.

RIP champ.

Sanchez looks very very high level in the Gomez fight. That's an elite fighter right there.

 

I was a year away from being interested in boxing. I doubt something like that would have made mainstream news anyway though. It's not like he was Elvis or something.

His hook was better than Elvis' though, so maybe they should have mentioned it.

 

I was getting ready for School. It was on local radio , unknown for a Boxing story but our local hero, Pat Cowdell, had taken him close and wanted a rematch.
Five years later, as a young amateur, I was gym mates with Pat. He had nothing but good words and great respect for Salvador.
