Mosley vs. De la Hoya was much bigger.

Trinidad vs. De la Hoya was much much bigger.

Hatton vs. Mayweather was also much bigger.

    Chavez vs. Whitaker also.

as i have stated, there have been plenty of fights in recent years that have been bigger than this one. it's a good fight, but you aren't going to see the mainstream interest in this fight like you did the fights i mentioned earlier. like i said, this fight isn't even as big as mayweather-hatton, and there have been several fights in the last 15 that were even bigger than that. this should be a good fight, but it's not a BIG fight like some of you wish it was.

I wasn't much into boxing in 1985, but I wonder if this fight is even bigger than Donald Curry-Milton McCory.

Margo-Cotto may be more entertaining than Mayweather-Hatton, Tito-Oscar or even Hearns-Leonard, but it won't be bigger. Those are two different things.

as far as mainstream interest, about the same. if it turns out to be the fight i believe it will, it might be remembered as a big fight, but right now, it's not because only hispanics and hardcore boxing fans know who either of these guys are. they just don't have quite the drawing power yet, although cotto is getting there. margo is still a long way off.

    Put it this way.

This isn't the biggest fight in the welterweight division since 1981, but it should be.

I couldn't careless about marquee names, or seeing Jack Nicolson in the crowd at front row. I'm a boxing fan, and some of the greatest fighters ever were never on the level of De La Hoya/Mosley or Mayweather/Hoya promotional wise. But this is the fight boxing fans have been waiting for.

    **** everybody else.

I think you're giving too much credit to Margarito. :huh

He's just an exciting mexican brawler who beat Kermit Cintron. Nothing more.

A fight that involves him can't be put in the same sentence of Hearns-Leonard.

even among boxing fans, this fight isn't anywhere near as big as most of the fights DLH and trinidad have had at 147. i know several guys who have fight parties when DLH had a big fight at 147 and even when mayweather-hatton fought. i don't see that type of interest in this fight. like i said, it should be a great fight, and it might go down in history as being a big fight, much like ward-gatti, but right now, it's not that big a fight.

    That makes sense.

I'm giving to much credit to a fighter that rose to the top the hardest way imaginable, and has been a beltholder twice at welterweight. Fail.

Margarito vs Cotto and Thomas Hearns vs Sugar Ray Leonard. I just put the two in the sentance.

This has all the potential to be a great fight, and I am a big fan of Antonio Margarito. For me, if not for anybody else, is the biggest fighter of the year and the one I've been most looking forward to since Pacman vs Marquez 2.

All credit to Margarito. We often neglect fighters who aren't ATG-potential. Happens to often.

Oscar vs Tito was way bigger but it didnt live up to the hype though. Now this fight has the potential on been the biggest if in fact turns out to be a great fight, and Im hoping it really does.

which is what many of us are saying. from the styles of both fighters, we all know it SHOULD be a great fight. but saying it's the biggest fight at 147 since SRL-hearns is like saying gatti-ward was a bigger fight than chavez-DLH 1 at 140lbs. it's gone down in history as being a better fight than DLH-chavez, but it had nowhere the interest that fight had.

I wouldn't be pissed at all because it would mean they can draw and it would be step closer to PBF coming out of retirement.
