Spinks tries his cute tricks for a few rounds. After 5 he is overwhelmed by both the punch volume, perseverance, and darting aggressiveness of Holy...Michael gets stopped in 7 at the latest.

I think you're confusing Mike with Evander's easier CW opponents.

 

I think Holyfield would have beaten him with something to spare. I've never been all that impressed by Spinks north of 175.

I really don’t think that by 1988 Michael Spinks’ mind nor his heart were in the game anymore. Meanwhile you had a young and hungry Evander Holyfield who was set on conquering the boxing world. I love Spinks but he doesn’t win this.

 

A better scenario would be if Spinks made the cruiserweight limit in 1986 or '87. This would be war and a classic. I'd give the edge to Holyfield because of his superior workrate.

As the post stands - Holyfield easily stops the ageing Spinks.
