    though both had done their jobs exceedingly well and got their chances, they both had more in them.
    Cerdan rematch with Jake and probably another 1 or 2 defences in him. Benny was at the end but he might have fought a few more fights if not for boozing it up and the sad outcome. Anyway both great losses.

    He's referring to the great middleweight "Nonpareil" Jack Dempsey, who came before.

    St. Louis southpaw 139-pounder Lemuel Steeples may have been the brightest of that ill-fated bunch. Tons of international competition, beat Milton McCrory several times (lost to Don Curry in a national final I think). Would have likely been a welter in the pro ranks.

    I watched a lot of Roman's fights and carried myself as a fan of his as a boxer, I had no idea he died so young. That felt like a slight gut punch.
