Brook should have been campaigning at 154 years ago and I truly think we'd have seen the best of him at that weight. A real shame really.
Brook looked good against Khan for the simple reason that Amir had absolutely nothing left. Smith is a totally different proposition and I think he rolls right over Kell inside 6.
I’m a fan of Fitz and think he’s a cracking fighter when he’s on it but he’d be biting off more than he could chew with Liam Smith. The 154 division domestically , now and especially then, was brilliant with the likes of Fitzgerald, Fowler, Cheeseman, Williamson, Conway and Metcalf…. Numerous 50/50 fights. But the gap between them and Liam Smith is a big one, he is a level or 2 above and stops all of them inside the distance.
Liam Smith just lacks the X factor outside of the ring to be on PPV. There have been much worse fighters on Sky PPV
I’m sure there was a poll about 2 years ago relating to this when they had a little spat on Twitter.. I’m sure Liam won it even back then. Brook has beaten Khan, yes Khan since then and that’s it.
The elite are too good for Beefy but anything below and he is a hard fight for anybody. Beefy would destroy Brook if they fought now and it would have been a very good 50/50 fight as well 3 years ago.
The loser in this fight would be the broadcaster. Neither fighter is especially popular, it's a trade fight, it might need PPV money to tempt Brook in, and it won't sell. It's one thing making Smith look like a star by putting him on a big mainstream undercard with Taylor, or doing his "Liverpool derby" fight with Fowler which was another trade fight outside of Liverpool; beyond those, he's a hard sell wanting top level money.
That's how I've always viewed him, there was no shame in losing to the Clen version of Alvarez that he fought but when he lost to Munguia his level was well and truly found out which in turn exposed how low Fowler's is when Liam wiped the floor with him a few years later. It irks me that Smith has 3 defeats on his record and I'd like him to be given the opportunity to right the bent wrongs of that third defeat, he never lost that. Of all the brothers he seems to be the most likeable and the one up for any fight and the biggest and best that are on the table.
Kell Brook is a shot fighter. This version of Brook got stopped by a jab off a lightweight and couldn't knock out a shot to pieces old retired Amir Khan. Smith BROS. wins this one via easy stoppage.
He probably was but again it’s quite hard to tell just how good he was - that was my point. Brook wasted his prime years. Went up to MW to fight GGG and then stayed at 147 for way too long as he pandered to Khan. He also was not always the best outside the ring and came in to certain fights in poor condition.
It's nearly 6 years since they last sparred. Kell then and Kell now. It's irrelevant because it wouldn't sell enough apps.
