Fury announces Retirement

His legacy is extremely poor if he does not beat the winner of the Usyk vs Joshua fight.

He beat Wladimir yes, but he also ducked the rematch not once, but twice. I believe the reason being that he did not believe he could beat a more motivated Wladimir.

Yes he beat Wilder three times, but nobody considered Wilder anything special to begin with. Wilder literally built his championship career beating no hopers over real competition for year. The only reason Wilder is getting any credit now, is because Fury’s legacy is dependent on it. Unless Wilder secures a solid win over a decent opponent he will never be the great win Fury fans want him to be.

Fury needs at least one more good win. The Usyk vs Joshua winner would definitely do it.

 

Tyson Fury is the greatest Heavyweight of all time.

 

His legacy will be more coming back from MH and weight issues than ring achievement. On that giving up the belt you worked hard for and sacrificed hard for at 33 is bizarre to me but whatever eh. I fully expect he'll slip back into his old habits and will need the focus boxing brings him to stay on the wagon.

It’s not all about the amount of mediocre “top fighters” you have beat. It’s more about who you beat. Fury beating Wlad in Germany tops any win on Wlads resume.
I agree Fury needs to fight the winner of Usyk - AJ (which I think he will) and if Usyk wins, Fury will probably fight both.

 

His resume is decent, but I wouldn't consider him even in top 20 HW's if Wilder or 40 year old Wlad are considered to be his best wins.

But if he beats AJ/Usyk winner then sure, he'd be in the top 20, especially if it's Usyk.

 

Fury's head to head ranking is better than his all time ranking

I only see Lewis and Vitali beating him comfortably. There are a few others like Foreman and Holmes and maybe a peak Bowe.

So tell me about all these great HW’s Wlad beat up?

 

Whatever the reasons, there fights did not take place, and that is a legacy issue.

Joshua held three belts for a significant period, so whoever's fault it was, and however he lost the belts, the fight should have happened.

If these were two fighters from the 1930s, we would absolutely view it as a weakness in both their resumes, that the fight never happened.

However good or bad Ruiz was, it cannot be debated that he beat Joshua, and that alone makes him a significant name of the era.

 

That leaves him in the top 15 HWs of all time then.

 

Fury will fight the winner of Usyk v Joshua,can’t see Fury being motivated to fight the loser tbh .

 

Announcing retirement and making comebacks is good business for him. Plus later in a career it’s probably healthier to fight once a year as long as you stay fit.
