Yeah, those deductions weren't dubious at all. JCV was throwing blatant rabbit punches while he and Whitaker were standing cheek to cheek. Got away with 2 or 3 more in the 12th round because the ref was probably tired of deducting points. They weren't very hard rabbit punches but they were dirty nonetheless. I had Whitaker running away with the last third of the fight and winning by a healthy margin.

Whitaker was rolling down and to his left leaving nothing but the back right side of his head open. It's a cheap move. He's partly to blame. And by the way, JCV was deducted for holding and hitting, not rabbit punching.
Man, talk about blaming the victim. What's cheap is intentionally hitting someone on the brain stem in the back of the head because you can't find anywhere else to hit them. Blatant rabbit punches. The dirty punches that he lost points for are in the video at 33:55 and 42:30. There were also 3-4 early on in the fight (he received several warnings) and 2-3 in the 12th round. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFzbCwEC-EQ [By the way, how do I embed videos instead of just the links?] I think you're mistaken about the deductions (Lampley was too even though Lederman repeatedly corrected him, like at 40:56 of the video).
agree they weren't the worst fouls ever, but i'm not sure about 'cheap move' as the other guy should throw different punches if the opponent keeps making the same move.
Yeah, they were very blatant and completely avoidable fouls. (bump) Has there ever been a Vasquez v. Trinidad thread?
