I would love to see the Duran who butchered Davey Moore get his hands on Canelo, Duran by ko in 10. The Hagler that busted up Tony Sibson would beat him to death and stop him. The only fighter Canelo could go the distance with is Leonard and Canelo wouldn't have his bought off judges in this one. Ray by UD
This thread didn't age well, did it? Lol. Canelo wouldn't beat any of these guys even with his judges. I see that people mentioned Duran having a low chance against Canelo but the same Duran past his prime, went head to head against Hagler (if he won the last round he would beat Hagler according to the judges. And Duran beat Iran Barkley's a*s way past his prime at the age of 38 on his 90 something bout. I don't like Sugar Leonard one bit but he easily outboxes Canelo's ears off. As for the Hagler, he can just pressure Canelo' and despite Canelo's good chin, he could knock him out late in the match.
Yeah because he dropped a relatively close decision to an undefeated 175 champ who won almost 300 am fights. Duran beat Davey Moore and therefore was invincible.
I think this thought that a certain fighter who fought one fight and not the other winning fights because he looked better is not valid. A fighter is usually the same fighter, but this opponent presents a different variable and skill set. This is being overlooked at times. Duran could fight well when fighting Davey Moore and not Thomas Hearns. People wonder why? Moore had 11 fights and was not elite and Hearns had 40 fights and had fought and won 2 titles in 2 weights against Cuevas and then Benitez, who had beaten Duran.. It was a different and better opponent and style.. The Canelo who lost to Bivol last night would have still knocked out Kovalev and beaten up Plant and looked great doing it.
Hearns was better v Hill than Canelo was v Bivol due to his reach, he also took a lot of shots fromBarkley at 175, Canelo doesn`t have Tommy`s power.
Duran was more skilled Canelo is, Canelo`s jab is bad, you need a jab to beat Duran, Duran was a lot more invincible under 154 though.
Yes but Duran started at 135 and Ray at 147 and Hagler has a longer jab than Bivol had, Canelo`s jab would be too short and inferior to Hagler`s.
Moore had maybe 12 fights, but unlike Bivol or Lomachenko, never had world class am experience. He was basically an undeveloped prospect with a belt and a good win.
I need to see the whole Bivol vs Canelo fight. However, round by round as described online - it appeared Canelo was beaten clearly and exponentially. I also checked You Tube HLs and averaged out, it more or less reflected the online round by round run down. OneYou Tube HL vid however was delib. edited all Canelo’s way - and that still only equated to showing Canelo aggressively moving forward, slinging shots but with little success. The real give away on the vid - each successive round Canelo was more marked up - apparently by phantom punches the uploader in question chose not to show. LOL. Meanwhile, Bivol was unmarked. As much as I’ve read and seen so far, the uniform scores of 115-113 sound very dodgy. Seems like it should’ve been more a 116-112 fight at the very least. Possibly even 118-110 or 119-109. Bivol’s defence was excellent, very Canelo shots actually got through, many landing on the gloves. I didn’t see it as so much of an upset, rather, too much deluded hype surrounding Canelo. Not to say he isn’t a great fighter - but at 175, dropping fair height and some reach he was really pushing the boundaries of his physical limitations, which can’t be helped, no matter your skill set. Bivol on the other hand, used his height, reach etc. to max. advantage, as every great fighter should (ala Monzon) but strangely there are so many fighters who totally negate those advantages (see Bowe, IMO). Credit to Canelo for heart. A very frustrating and punishing fight but he kept trying. Increasingly marked up, he looked quite distressed in the latter rounds. I read that Canelo was booed by some of his fans. Very poor show - and really, to be so fickle, they have no right to call themselves true fans, particularly when wouldn’t have one ounce of the courage it took to see the fight out with little hope of pulling it out.
Davey Moore was quite a decorated amateur. He most definitely had "world class am experience". He won the New York Golden Gloves four years in a row among other things. Donald Curry pipped him for a spot on the Olympic team.
Golden Gloves is more domestic imo. Wilder won that in his second year of fighting. I mean Olympics, World Championships, Pan Am, etc. I dont know if Moore ever fought a Cuban or Russian.
I had the fight 8-4 and the judges had it 7-5. General Forum is clueless. Basically, Bivol fought a poised fight, never left himself open to counters and showed great defense and punch resistance. With that said, Canelo probably could've pulled the fight out if he'd let his hands go in the last three rounds, but he had big problems with cardio on Saturday.
