Like Duran v. Buchanan and Monzon v. Tonna.

Any other fights come to mind?

Briggs—Mercer was borderline, but that shouldn’t count due to Mercer playing dead.

I dont really agree. Kovalev was bent at a 90 degree angle before the final punch, which was borderline. Weeks' hand was sort of forced because Kovalev wasn't defending himself.

Dempsey / Sharkey, if you want to stretch a bit.

I don't think it's a stretch at all. Sharkey was on the way down from that lowblow when Dempsey landed on his jaw

Kev, seen the fight and never heard anything else on it. Looked like a clean uppercut. What was the controversey?

Also, if I was to add something, I may mention the Wilfredo Gomez - Carlos Zarate fight. Harry Gibb let Gomez get away with murder in there. I truly think Harry was intimidated by the rabid Puerto Rican crowd. Gomez would likely have taken it but Gomez was allowed to hit after the bell, unsportsmanlike spitting on his opponent when he was down and the final stoppage he allowed Gomez to hit Zarate with a full-blooded shot when he was down.

Riddick Bowe - Buster Mathis (punched while Mathis was down)
Riddick Bowe - Pierre Coetzer (low blow not called, like Dempsey-Sharkey)
Riddick Bowe - Elijah Tillery I (Bowe's manager climbed on the ring apron and pulled Tillery over the top rope and out of the ring)

Haven't seen it in years, but always looked to me like Shavers was holding Ellis' head down while he threw that uppercut. Also did a similar tthing to Bugner, IIRC.

Earnie held Ellis by the back of the head when he hit Jimmy with the uppercut. It was actually something Shavers did in more than a few fights.

Gomez vs Zarate. I co-incidentally watched that fight the other day.

Yeah, even if winning anyway, Wilfredo could’ve/should’ve been DQ’d several times. He hit and KD’d clearly after the bell ending the 4th. Even after Zarate arose Gomez ran over and hit him again.

I didn’t know Gomez actually spat on Zarate when he was down - but now you’ve mentioned it, yeah that fits with what I saw, he ran back after the KD - I thought he was going to hit Zarate while he was down - but he just stood over him - . I thought Gomez was leaning down just to mouth off. Disgusting.

And the final, full blooded punch when Carlos was on the deck - unreal - Gomez couldn’t have got DQ’d if he tried.
