He gets hit a lot for someone who has an ambition to be the #1. Also his footwork is one of the worst among elite fighters.
Canelo's skills have deteriorated significantly. And it did not happen overnight. Since the start of his 168 campaign, combos, head movement have disappeared. Those weight games affected his skills.
They definitely have. He now relies on power & walking his opponent's down to get the victory. He can't do that with these 175lbers...
Fantastic clip of the ropes master doing what he does best. The showmanship from Canelo to go back to the ropes and hang out there as long as he did, at one point he motioned Bivol to come in, like bring it on here I am, hit me if you can. The ropes sequences are some of the most fun and entertaining parts of Canelo fights. These moments add so much to the entertainment. He did get tagged more than usual while on the ropes in this fight, however I didn't get the sense that the DAZN commentators were really seeing and crediting him for blockng as many punches on the ropes as he did. Some of Bivol's shots with canelo on the rops got through, but most of them were blocked and slipped and the commentators weren't really seeing this, they were making it seem like Bivol was just teeing off on him and that mostly wasn't the case. This clip showed that he had these moments of brilliance on the ropes making Bivol miss and putting on a show. When he pulls off manuevers like this on the ropes and makes someone as good as Bivol look silly to this extent, it should have an impact on how a round is scored. The extent that is does is unknown in most cases, it wasn't credited against GGG the first time probably because it was so unexpected, but I think the judges have learned over time to value this more as Canelo's career has progressed, as it's become so synonymous with how he fights. These moments show a cerebral level of ring presence and confidence that is unmatched in boxing and is one of the things that make Canelo special as a fighter.
Canelo has a granite chin and will never probably be properly KTFO but during the Bivol fight there were some shades of him getting stopped on his feet while getting pummeled with clean shots left and right. Kinda like Mwakinyo vs Eggington style This content is protected
