    The Big Fights That Got Away, That Were Supposed To Happen. I will start it off, the projected title bout between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield in 1990. I was given this idea by a very talented poster and friend, imagine if Tyson had defeated James Buster Douglas on Feb 11 1990, then invites Kevin Rooney back into his entourage in preparation to defending against Evander Holyfield in Oct 1990. I have to go with Mike, this time both fighters have their ears intact, no prison for Tyson.

    It was actually penciled in for June 90, which I suspect means if Tyson had kept his title in Tokyo he would of had the same team for Holyfield.


    Another Tyson fight penciled in was an autumn 1989 date with Ruddock...

    Great info, but I was just supposing the return of Kevin Rooney, I wonder what that had been like?

    Bowe and Lewis. That would have a real test for both men. Timing would have perfect just after Lewis beat Ruddock and Bowe best Holyfield.
    Blast! That would have been perfect.

    I remember the post fight interview where Lennox Lewis called Riddick Bowe Chicken Bowe, Lol.

    Arguello dropping a non title decision to Fernandez in 78 allegedly cost us a Duran/Arguello super fight.

    My pick is the old man Foreman-Holmes fight that was actually signed, but then fell through. Yeah, it wouldn't have been some superfight like Lewis-Bowe, but it would have been fun to watch.

    I actually agree with George's overly humble assessment of how it would go. If it went to the cards, it would probably mean Holmes had won. If it didn't, it would be because George had stopped him.

    Mercer vs Golota was supposed to happen on HBO but I think that's when Mercer got Hep B

    Julio Cesar Chavez after his loss to ODLH (first time) was supposed to fight Mickey Ward in 97. Chavez had declined enough by then that maybe Ward can make it a war and has a chance.

    Bowe vs Lewis is always a good go to for this question

    Trinidad vs Quartey I think was supposed to happen prior to Quartey vs OdLH (or maybe I'm misremembering this one)

    That loss to Vilomar Fernandez certainly did jeopardized in what would have been a great showdown at 135 lbs, that fight could have happened following WBA Champion Roberto Duran's TKO 12 of WBC Lightweight Champion Esteban De Jesus on Jan 21 1978.

    The fight was also set later but Tyson hurt his ribs and Cooper filled in.

    Wasn't Trinidad v Norris supposed to happen? Both were from the same stable. No reason it couldn't have.

    I bet someone would have got knocked down in the second round.

    Other than that, Hagler v Hearns in 82 before Tommy broke his finger. Glad it didn't happen then. Marvin was too good and Tommy still too green and not yet grown. It wouldn't have been the war it eventually was.

    You remember right Norris vs Trinidad was supposed to happen, Trinidad even KOdcTroy Waters at Jr middle to kind of build up that fight, but then either Norris or Trinidad (or both) had managerial issues with King and the fight never took place. I had the KO magazine at one point with the preview of Norris-Trinidad and was hyped. Looking back I think Norris was just about done at this time and Trinidad would of KOd him, but this was pre-Mullings mugging so it wasn't thought to be as one sided as I suspect it would of been
