Did far better than I ever thought he would. I was never a fan of his but Give him his due...loved a tear up despite his glaring faults and always challenged himself...still to this day have no idea how he took that beating off maidana and didn't wilt Was in plenty of great fights Happy retirement
Two careers. The first half was great; full of exciting fights and operating at a high level. The second half - after chasing the Mayweather fight but not landing it - was disappointing to say the least. It's like he'd lost his sporting motivation and merely chased the dollar bill. Thought he redeemed himself somewhat in the take-a-knife-to-a-gunfight shellacking he bravely took from Brook, and the way he fronted up to the press conference afterwards with his face looking like a pepperoni pizza but willing to: 1. Genuinely congratulate Kell and 2. Laugh about his shaky whiskers. Probably a much more likable guy than the image he chose to project...
Good career not great would have liked him to avenge his defeats to Peterson and Garcia which he could have easily done and i really wanted to see the tim bradley fight and he did waste abit of his career but never mind you cant question his toughness and heart he made his money good luck to him
He's given the fans so many laughs over the years, some of which will never get old. This content is protected
Khan gave us boxing fans alot of good memories and good fights to look back on. Im glad he retired for the sake of his health.
Amir Khan did sign to rematch Lamont Peterson but the dude failed his drugs tests (PED's and steroids). The fight they had, that was a straight up home cooking job. The referee taking 2 points for something that is NEVER enforced. The knockdown that was not called because Peterson's foot and the referee's foot tangled a little bit AFTER Khan landed a punch that was sending Peterson down. The ref being on Khan's neck from the first bell to the last bell. The 'man in the hat' going back and forth talking to the judges, something that is illegal. Lastly, the failed drugs tests. Most thought he won this fight and I cannot even begrudge him for the rematch not happening.... as he did sign for it. I cannot fathom why, a unified champion who is a global star with a huge following and a big promoter would go abroad to defend his 2 belts in his opponents hometown, a hometown that has not hosted HBO Boxing for 18 years until that point. It was in Washington DC. There was no reason to go there whatsoever. Peterson could have easily been asked to go to England if he wants to challenge the unified champion. If Khan really wanted to go to America.... then at least he should have asked for MSG or Las Vegas. That would have made sense for him. The fight with Danny Garcia... different story. He was lighting him up in a one-sided beatdown until he got caught hard and then went toe to toe until he got stopped. I do think he could have won a rematch with the correct game plan so maybe he should have chased that instead of the Mayweather and Pac-Man fights that he never got.
Glad he's finally hanging them up. Hate to see him constantly knocked around. He made the most of his abilities despite his major flaws and still gave some memorable fights. Enjoy retirement champ.
I don't see how he could have beaten Floyd, I don't care what boxers and trainers say. I've watched highlights of the Alexander and Collazo fights. Khan's footwork and defense are AWFUL, even with the so-called "improvements" he made under Hunter.
This is very good news. He looked so shot against Kell Brook and I was really worried if he fought again he could get seriously hurt. Congrats on a nice career, Amir.
World Champion and a 17 year old Olympic medalist, that is not too bad a legacy to leave in annals of boxing history, he achieved more than most in our sport, is retiring healthy, wealthy and with plans for future, which sounds mighty fine to me.
Good for him. Entertaining fighter, win or lose. I saw him in action live against Zab Judah; that was a high point of his career. Glad he's stepping away now.
